Male kittens - a bit whiffy?

Hi We’ve two adorable male kittens (11 weeks - requisite photo attached), and how shall I put this? The room they are in smells a bit musty - sort of teenage boy bedroom. Is this normal? Will neutering sort it?

Help please. We’d a girl cat before and had no issue.

How much grooming do they do? Our boy cat does a small patch 3 licks wide on the middle of each side. Job done. That's it. We use Nilaqua tea tree shampoo on him when he gets too stinky.

When are they booked in to be neutered?

They don’t do that much self-grooming. They do a bit, but not as much as our female cat. How do we get them to do more?

Our vet says they normally neuter at 6 months, so not for ages

I don't think it will be anything to do with their maleness at this stage. I imagine you have them in a room with the windows shut ( because of course kittens and open windows are a no no). And unventilated rooms with litter trays and food will always smell a bit. I bet that's all it is.

Male cats are not great groomers, my Bengal wasn’t awful but my female long hair spends flipping hours grooming and gets most annoyed if you touch a recently washed area.

My male longhair from childhood was shockingly bad and was bathed several times. White cats are meant to have white paws.

Your kittens are lovely though. Try putting the window on the latch so you get a bit of fresh air in there.

I've had three male cats and none of them have ever smelt bad.

But if you're keeping them in an enclosed space with food and litter in there too, they will smell as their fur picks up the smell of their environment.

Mine smell of whatever I've been cooking or the wax melts I burn. The fat cat smells of biscuits as I often find him with his head buried in the biscuit bowl Grin

Have a look at Flat Cats for the window

I made my own with silicon mesh and Velcro from Amazon
