Pet insurance or vet visit first?

Hi!

We've decided to keep a stray that has adopted us Grin

I've never had pets in this country (or as an adult...) so I don't really know how to go about this. Could you help me please? What do I do first? Any suggestions on good insurers?

Thank you!

I would definitely get him insured first, then the vet, in case the cat has any problems.

Most insurers have a qualifying period before you could make a claim, e.g. won't cover anything that you find out about within say the first 2 or 4 weeks of you taking out the cover. This is to prevent people not bothering to insure a pet, then if it gets injured take insurance out and take the pet to the vet the following day.

So ideally, unless you have any real worries, take out the insurance then don't take your new cat to the vet for checkover, jabs etc until at least that qualifying period is over.

Definitely insure him first and get good insurance if you can. He's gorgeous

Oops I mean she.

Thanks OP, she's lovely. Definitely decided that she's home now.

She refuses to sleep in the nice bed we got her

Yeah, that's pretty typical.

She's lovely.
