Missing cat’s body found

I posted a while ago about my cat who went missing after being hit by a car.

His body was found by a neighbour today, in the road. We think he must have died after the shock and his body was dragged out of the undergrowth by a fox.

We searched the neighbouring area high and low to no avail but he must have been so close.

We are all so devastated - I had almost given up hope but not quite. He was only 18 months old Sad

I’m so sorry Flowers

That’s horrible. Your poor little boy. Know that you loved him and I’m sure gave him a wonderful life. ❤️

TheSpottedZebra · 13/10/2021 22:46

Oh my gosh, I am so very sorry.

CaribouCarafe · 13/10/2021 22:49

That is so heartbreaking. I'm so sorry op. Hopefully in time this will bring some closure though rather than forever wondering if he is still out there Flowers

Thank you all.
Sorry for the macabre thread and title but I’m so sad about it and needed to write it down. Thanks everyone for being kind Flowers

I am so very sorry to read this.

How devastating for you. Please be kind to yourself. I am sure you gave him a great life, even though it was sadly cut short.

CatChant · 14/10/2021 09:19

Oh no. Flowers

Your poor boy. I am so sorry. I hope it helps a bit to know that he isn't lost and frightened.

I lost my first cat this way when he was about the same age. It's horrible.

Look after yourself.

So sorry for your loss op.. But please try and take some comfort that he has been found... The mind plays terrible tricks when there is no end to your worry.
Poor boy. RIP.

Ellmau · 14/10/2021 22:15

So sorry.

sunnyliveshere · 14/10/2021 22:21

Yes I am glad we have some closure as only last week we were looking extensively through a garden after a false alert.
I just feel so distressed that he was found literally 10 mètres from our house. I searched high and low at all hours but can’t shake the feeling that I didn’t do enough and that I failed him. He must have been hiding nearby but I didn’t manage to find him. If I had maybe I could have saved him or had him put down and stopped his suffering. Poor boy; I can’t bear that he died alone Sad

I'm so very sorry. You obviously loved him very much.

Please don't torture yourself like that. None of this is your fault.

Thanks
CaribouCarafe · 14/10/2021 23:17

It's possible that he passed away not long after finding a secluded spot close to your house - I'm sure there was nothing that you could have done to help him. Cats tend to hide away when they know they are sick or dying, it's possible that taking him to the vet in his final moments may have caused more distress and that he died relatively peacefully from incurable injuries. Best not to dwell on it.

I do know it's hard to put it out of your mind - I still think about my first cat. She also died from a car incident when I was 4 years old. Doorbell rang, neighbour had Missy dead in her arms. She looked like she was asleep. We'd only had her for a few months and she'd died instantly having chased a leaf across the road. It's hard to let go of that final image and it still haunts me to this day Flowers

Thank you 🙏
Sorry to hear about Missy @CaribouCarafe - terrible Flowers
