8mo kitten fighting 10yo cat. Help!

We have a slightly grumpy 10 year old male cat. Likes things his own way, but generally no trouble.

5 months ago we got a male kitten who is now 8m old. He has always tried to play fight with our adult cat, which doesn't go down well. Lots of growling and paw swiping from the 10yo, mostly after kitten has jumped on his back repeatedly!!

Our kitten has been poorly for the past month but is now better. Whilst he was ill, cat relations were a lot better. Now he is back to 200% energy levels, its constant fighting. He hasn't gone outside yet (due to being ill) but will be soon. Not sure if this will help or make things worse.

Basically 10yo cat wants peace. 8mo wants constant play (fighting). Im equally worried about kitten getting hurt if he keeps pushing his luck, and 10yo moving out for some peace! Any tips to sort?

Get another kitten. What you're doing is like expecting a staid middle aged person to play with a six year old!

Seriously- a cat the same age as your young one will play with them and both should leave older cat alone

Another kitten is a big ask! We have our hands full with the kitten we have, and we've never had more than 2 cats. Something to consider, when all other options are exhausted I guess!

Any other options?

I would say let the kitten out asap. You wouldn't keep a toddler in all day and I suspect he needs a really good run around. It will also give your older one some peace.

Is the kitten neutered? If not, get him done ASAP and start letting him out to burn off some energy.

Is kitten neutered?
How much do you play with him?
He sounds bored and frustrated. He needs lots of interaction/play and outdoor access
