Cat flap advice needed

The itty bitty kitty is now six months old and loves being outdoors. I've never had cats before, so the whole cat flap thing is new to me. I've done some googling, and I think microchip flap is probably the way to go. The £££££ one with the app looks exciting - is it worth it or have I just got sucked in?

Just get the basic cheap one from Pets at home. I've had the same one for 20 years and replaced it once when I had a new door but got the same one. Nothing to go wrong and we've never had another cat use it and there are loads round here. It's the Petsafe Staywell original.

I have a standard microchip flap that works very well. I checked the app version and it offers the option to monitor if pet is at home, which honestly I haven't really missed. Not sure it's worth the extra cash.

There are lots of cats around here so I got a microchip flap. I like her in before it gets dark and one time I got held up and didn't get home to lock her in until after it was dark, I was so worried.

I've replaced the microchip one with the app version and it's great. I get a notification on my phone when she comes in or goes out, and I can set a curfew time. I'm much more at ease about it, no rushing home, it's great.

We have a standard microchip flap without the app

Definitely microchip one, and if I'd have known there was one with an app I'd have been tempted, but really feel it's unnecessary.

We got our first microchip one when I turned to talk to the cat as she was eating her biscuits and discovered it was a completely different strange cat in our kitchen.

We've got the microchip app one. I like the app because it tells you whether they are in or out, you get a notification in your phone when they come in or out. You can view their weekly statistics as well. You can mess around with curfews and lock one in and another out and all sorts. And it tells you when the batteries have run out.
