How much food?

How much would you feed a 6kg cat? Waitrose (his favourite food) suggests 1 x 85g sachet per kg of cat, but 6 sachets seems an enormous volume of food.

Dcat was obese when we got him, but he looks and feels a healthy weight now. I don't want to make him lose any more weight until he is seen by a vet.

Currently he gets 3 sachets a day in 3 meals (usually Waitrose 85g, but sometimes other brands 100g) and 25-30g of dry food for him to graze on.

It can be very dependant on the individual cat, their age, and their habits. Rather like people in general, I'm sure you know people who can eat all the wrong things in large volumes and stay thin, and those who put on pounds if they go 1 calorie over their diet.

Also bear in mind that dry food is a lot more calorific than wet. If your cat is happy and a good weight on what you give him, then don't worry Smile

agree you have to experiment. If he's a good weight now on that intake then stick with that.

The recommended amount is based on you feeding a diet that's 100% that type of food.

My cats (of varying shapes and sizes) get an 80g sachet of wet food each per day (split in two) and unlimited dry food.

Across how many meals would you split 4-6 sachets?
