Cat hit by a car and missing

Our cat has been missing since Monday and I found out last night that he was hit by a car on Monday morning and ran off. The lady who witnessed the incident tried to find him to no avail.

We have been searching for him all over the surrounding streets but there is no sign. I’ve put notes in letter boxes and have been out this morning to ask people if I can look in their gardens. No success and this wasn’t very easy as I had my noisy and slow walking son in tow and lots of people were out. I am now going to put posters up around the whole neighbourhood and have put posts on Facebook on local lost / found pets pages.

I have also contacted local vets and the local animal shelter. He is chipped so they should call me if he comes into them.

Is there anything else I can do? I feel so helpless and distressed.

I have read in the past -on here I think- that someone went out late in the evening when the area/traffic was quiet and walked the streets loudly calling their cats name. It had been injured but, because they had been calling it, it did manage to crawl back home to them.

Many years ago my dcat crawled home after missing 10 nights. His leg was mangled but he survived.. Go shouting late at night when it's quiet op..

I do hope you find him. It can sometimes happen that they take a few days to come home when they've been hurt

Any sign of him op?

I don’t know where you live but I spoke to our local street cleaner and local window cleaner partly because I know they hears a lot of things going on, and partly because if the worst had happened they might be able to advise me. Luckily she came back, but I was pleased to have two more pairs of eyes watching out for her.

No sign. I am so sad, we search for him every day but we just can’t find him anywhere. We’ve only had him 6 months; I’m heartbroken 😔

Still no sign of my poor cat. I’ve been out looking again. I am so devastated. I put up loads of signs only to discover half of them had been removed and that made me even sadder.
I just want to see him again or just know what happened to him

Thanks. Still can’t find him. I can’t understand where he is. I’ve been searching the surrounding area for days now and there is nothing. I am worried he died and was eaten by a fox . But all the same I am trying to keep positive. There are lots of positive cat coming home tales but not many after an accident. So sad.

I think sadly when cats are injured especially like this they tend to go and hide. Have you checked under bushes near your house or close to the accident site if that's further away? I really hope you find him. The not knowing is just awful

Have you checked with the council? Not all scan for chips on deceased cats they collect (many areas do, due to the work of rescues and volunteers, but not all sadly).
I hope your cat comes home but if it is the worst case scenario, it might bring you closure.

Yes I did - twice, they hadn’t found anything and they took my number ans said they’d call back. I live in Switzerland and public services are pretty good here so I hope they would do it.
Just had a text from someone with a photo of a folorn looking cat not so far away. I am desperately hoping it is him. We are trying to track the cat down now. Trying not to get my hopes up too much though.

We couldn’t find the cat; the person who took the photo didn’t send it on for a few hours. I am going to try again this morning 🤞

Unfortunately very unlikely to be our cat. He was spotted on a terrace and the neighbours of said terrace told me that the people have cats and one is ginger

Still so sign of our cat. I am wondering how long to keep on searching for. I don’t want to give up but it’s very draining to be out every night. Just been out again for another hour and have been telling all the cats to go home and stay away from roads.

I don’t know, if he was ok to dash off there’s that glimmer of hope he’s ok isn’t there?.

Still no sign of our cat. I am so sad and angry with myself, if only I’d seen the Facebook post earlier about him being hit. Maybe I could have found him. I am trying to keep a tiny bit of hope but it’s beginning to feel futile
