DCat has brought in a mouse. What do I do?

Fairly new cat owner here. DCat has brought in a live, apparently unharmed mouse which was last seen heading towards the sofa. Despite looking everywhere last night I can’t see where the sodding thing went and DCat is happily curled up asleep as if it’s nothing to do with him! Hmm

I have ordered one of those humane traps to catch it but is there anything else I should do? I’m a bit overly anxious about hygiene and things and slightly struggling with the thought of the mouse in our (open plan) living room- kitchen Sad

I've managed to catch a few in Tupperware pots (when in clear view and I can chase them) or just grab them....but afraid one out stayed its welcome despite multiple efforts with humane traps , chocolate, peanut butter etc. It kept briefly reappearing or we saw droppings and we ended up putting some poison in the cupboard under the sink. Sad

Going to try the welly trick next time though

Ha! Mice are easy. Wait until you've had a very cross magpie flying around the house. There is a thread on here about what cats have brought home. I'm sure someone had a snake.
When I was a teen we had a huge black cat, god I loved that cat. Unfortunately we lost him to FIV :(

On the next street to us there was a takeaway. He used to bring allsorts home from their bins!! Half an onion, a deep fried chicken leg, an entire jacket potato wrapped in foil.

He also loved socks and used to trot through the catflap with pairs of baby socks in his mouth and drop them in his bed 😂 we never did find out where they came from!

I'm petrified of mice. I'm sure my cat knows this, he just brings me a nice leaf or something occasionally

Our boycat announces mice Very Loudly. I've learned to wake up very very quickly in case said mouse is still mobile and I need to catch it.

I use chocolate coins as bait if I get an Announcement but can't find a corpse. If they vanish or there's suddenly a lot of teeny bits of foil on the floor, I can follow-up with traps.

Fortunately girlcat (who was rescued by CP as a pregnant stray - she's boycat's mum) doesn't take prisoners. If she notices a mouse, it doesn't survive long.

Well this morning he hasn’t brought in a mouse but just spent about 15 minutes throughly killing the rug in my bedroom. I mean seriously… the rug?! 🤷‍♀️😂
