Sliding conservatory door cat flap

We’re moving house soon and losing our standard back door (with cat flap) and gaining a conservatory with sliding patio doors to the garden. After our two spoilt moggies have been under house arrest for a few weeks, we want them to enjoy their new garden (lavishly adorned with their used litter of course). Has anyone any experience of cat flaps in sliding doors, costs, problems etc?
Thanks.

Would this be an option so you don’t have to fit in the actual glass? I’m contemplating a wired window lock so the cat can get in & out, I just can’t decide the best option but constantly having to open the patio door is a pain. It’s pretty new & we didn’t have a cat when the doors were fitted or we could have ordered one with a flap in.

In our old house with patio doors, we put a hole in the wall next to the door. You can get tunnel extensions for cat flaps, we had about 3 of those to make it long enough to go through the cavity wall.
Worked perfectly.

I’m not sure if you can put a cat flap in sliding doors - we have one in the glass of our patio doors but it projects out about 3 cms either side of the glass.

We've just had a slimline cat flap fitted into our double glazed sliding patio door last Tuesday. Works perfectly. One cat has got the hang of it. The other is just learning. Can't fit a microchip operated cat flap into the double glazing as the cat flap needs to be slimline to allow the sliding doors to open properly. No biggie.

We paid a local glazing company to do it. The Brand name of the cat flap is, 'Cat Walk, New Zealand'

For clarity, we live in Britain.

I saw your message from some years ago regarding fitting a cat flap in a glass door. I am looking to do the same. My glazier is on the case, but it depends on how much the cat flap protrudes from the glass door it is placed into, otherwise, the other door will not slide over it. Did you have that problem? Can you remember exactly the type of cat flap you used? Many thanks!
