Hiding Cat

Hi all,

My elderly mother adopted a 9 yr old rescue cat over 5 weeks ago.

It's a beautiful big Tom but it's scared of its own shadow. Won't go out of the house which is fine.

It's quiet at mums, she just potters about, watches tv and the odd bit of hoovering, oh the stairlift makes a bit of noise Grin

We expected some hiding and it had an igloo bed it would hide in, but it was coming out of an evening and sitting with mum on the settee. Which is what she wants a lap cat.

Problem is it's regressed in to hiding under her bed, all day every day, just coming out to eat and use tray then goes back.

I've told mum to shut her bedroom door during the day, but she won't remember.

He does have other bolt holes downstairs as I know he needs to feel safe.

What to do?

Try the beaphur plug-in, it’s only £10 on Amazon.

It took my rescue girl 6 weeks to come out and I was worried.

Maybe try the feliway plug in. Both mine were a lot calmer after we tried that. They argue a lot when it's not plugged in.

My first thought is something has happened to unnerve him. It might not be anything your mum has done, it may be neighbour noise, seeing people or other cats from the window.

He sounds adorable, I think he just needs more time.
