My lovely 15 year old boy has been ill for some time with kidney troubles, he's gone steadily downhill over the last couple of days but was still eating and drinking and we had made the decision to call the vet after the bank holiday and let him go. Today he has plummeted and about an hour ago he had a fit. He's come out of it now and is very still and quiet. I've called a different vet to ours who is open on a Sunday and they have agreed to see him at 4pm. I know my cat and I know it's time but I feel awful. My four year old saw the fit as well so she's been very upset but thankfully has trotted off happily with Nanny for an afternoon of being spoilt. We lost our oldest cat last November and now we're losing our lovely boy. The dog won't leave his side like she's looking after him.

Oh this is rubbish. Properly, properly rubbish. Sad

Hello, thank you for all the kind words. I took a day yesterday to wallow a bit. Had a bloody good cry etc. I knew it was coming, I knew he wasn't going to get better, I just still can't quite believe he's gone.

His name was Shock (he was scared of everything when he was little and had this perpetually shocked expression hence the name) we'd had him since he was a tiny kitten. He was such a lovely, big, handsome boy. I really miss him.

It's so weird just having the one cat. She is fine so far, she came and had a good sniff of him before we went to the vets and he was in a bad way, I think she knew and it allowed her to make her peace with it. She's not wondering where he's gone, she knows he was dying and that's that for her. Same with the dog. Animals just know I think.

DD has accepted it, she was very upset initially but we explained that shock was old and very ill and the vet couldn't make him better. She keeps asking for him and then asking if we can get a new cat and call it shock. I've gently said no, there was only one shock and we won't be getting another cat for a while, we have one and a dog, that's enough.

Might have spoke to soon about DD. She's currently sobbing to her dad about how much she misses him and wants him back. I really wish she hadn't seen that fit... she's only 4 bless her. I'm really hoping that it's not the lasting memory she has of him. Sad

I miss him too little girl, I really do.
