Help! Bloody eye drops!

My boy basil and his cat flu has flared up again. His eyes are very gunky and has been prescribed eye drops. Well he bloody hates them! I've tried burrito technique, pinning him down, and he just squirms and struggles. I held him and DH did the drops but he refuses to open his gammy eyes and I don't want to hurt it so DH just sort of dropped them in the vague direction and I rubbed them in!

Any advice would really be appreciated.

I think you have to get tough, one of you hold him really tight and the other prise open his eyes. I know it's horrible but it's for his own good.

If you really can't bring yourself to do it, how about putting the drops on a lint-free cloth (so no fibres go in his eyes) and pressing it against his closed eyelids? Better than nothing maybe?

@CatJumperTwat (great name btw) that's a great shout if worse comes to worse!
Poor little basil.

I've given eyedrops to magic loads of times. But she's as good as gold with them. Though she did struggle with an antibiotic one once as it clearly stung. So no advice. She said to tell Basil just to sit still and get then done.

Ideally someone else holds tight and you go in from behind and above so they don't see them coming. Then just as quick as possible, not a particularly enjoyable experience for anyone/cat involved but needs must.

We had this with our terrified rescue. We had to try and get him while he was asleep and totally unaware. Luckily he slept in corners so it was a case of trapping him, shoving the drops in and running.

A bit like the episode of Friends where Rachel needed eye drops Grin

@icedcoffees - A puff of air. NOW COME ON Grin

Thanks so much all. He's been off in a huff all day, just came in for his food, I pinned him down while he was eating, got them in, and now he's disappeared again Sad already his eyes are looking so much better though.

Do cats just get up and leave if they hate somewhere enough?? Sad

He's back! He's cuddled up in bed with me and appears all is forgiven for now

@Toddlerteaplease he says thank you Magic, he will try his best to make her proud.

With my old cat I dropped the eyedrop in the inner corner of her eye and when she blinked it went in her eye.

Always do it from behind, while gently holding the scruff of his neck. Good luck Smile
