Kitten not using litter tray

We've had our girl kitten about ten days now. She used any of the four trays we have fine for the first week but now pees and poos in either the bath or shower tray.

We have four trays (three cats, the older two are free to go outside but one chooses to be an indoor cat). I make sure the trays are clean.

Any ideas, I know it could be worse and it's relatively easy to clear up. I've been using an antibacterial cleaner but I'm wary of using anything stronger.

She's eleven weeks old and will be free to go outside when she's been spayed.

It could be stress? Is she generally happy sharing a home with multiple cats?

She seems to be loving it! Made friends with the house cat and they're playing. Doesn't seem fazed by the outdoor cat even if he's growling at her. He's mostly outside atm anyway.

I was sitting on the loo, having just completely refreshed the litter tray, and she came in and peed in the shower tray in front of me. I noticed that, because she is so fluffy and peeing on a hard surface, it makes her wet underneath and that is going to be a problem.

Even if the litter looks clean I bet one of your older cats is scenting the litter. This happened with my previous pair of kittens. One kitten squeezed out a drip each time the litter was changed and then the other one wouldn't use it.
2 of my.current cats pee in the sink/bath without any trouble. I just rinse down afterwards.
Your kitty is very cute!

She is! And very cuddly although I could do without the curtain wrecking!

I think you may be right about the scenting in the litter tray. Finding poo in the shower is quite annoying though.

Can you put a small tray of litter in the places where she's been going? See if she uses the tray when it's in her preferred locations, and then you'll at least know if it's a tray problem or a location problem.

Are you using the same litter she's used to?

Beamur · 21/08/2021 16:04

That's a good point. She might not like the location you're putting the trays in.

I can put trays in the bath and shower so will try that, thanks.

It's different litter but she didn't seem to have an issue with until until the past few days. I'll get in touch with her previous owner and find out what they used (small white granules?).

Thanks
