Kitten Arrived Riddled With Fleas

We have recently adopted a 16-20 ish week old kitten. She was found abandoned by a friend and then we have ended up with her. She has arrived yesterday absolutely riddled with fleas, but most of them were very slow and sleepy. We have treated her with advantage and a very good flea comb and I have indorex coming tomorrow. She is confined to the lounge at the moment which is hard floors but she has taken a space on the sofa so that is likely riddled as well!

She has lovely pink gums, but she is very very quiet for a kitten, just sleeps or hides a lot of the day, not really into playing she looks like she doesn't know how to! She is also really not eating a lot of food. She has used her litter tray for 3 wees in 24 hours but no poops (but then she's not eating a lot!). Her nose is a nice temp and wet, she just seems a very sleepy kitten.

She is booked in the vets the end of next week (the earliest I could get) but she has had her jabs as friend got those done straight away.

Is it normal for an abandoned kitten to be this quiet? I know it's very confusing for her currently as it's a new house but she is just so quiet. She has no other unwell signs other than being quiet and not eating much (she has drunk water a few times though).

I am annoyed that friend didn't flea treat her as friend has had her at their house for 5 weeks! They have had a stern message from me today! As its now costing us a fortune and we are all itching like mad. It was also unfair to leave a kitten that is tiny with that many fleas! If her guns weren't such a great colour she would be at an emergency vet for anaemia! There were about 20-30 on her and so much flea dirt.

You have some lovely photographs to treasure in her memory Flowers It's nice that your DD can think of her being with her friend's hamster - that sounds like a comforting idea.

SunbathingDragon · 21/08/2021 15:53

I’m so sorry. Flowers

soddingkitten · 21/08/2021 15:57

Such sad news. It is comforting to think she has been so well cared for these last few days. Heartbreaking for your family though. 😔

AlternativePerspective · 21/08/2021 16:11

Sad so sorry to read this.

I would now ring the “friend” and let rip. Given you likely aren’t going to speak to her again after this I would think nothing of ringing her, or even going round there and telling her exactly what kind of person she is for leaving a defenceless animal in this state for so long. And I would hold nothing back. What a cunt she is.

Igmum · 21/08/2021 16:13

So sorry. She was so lucky to have her last few days with you. Sending love ❤️ Thanks

LadyFannyButton · 21/08/2021 16:25

Such sad news but thank goodness you and your lovely family had her in her final days to show her what love, kindness and a full tummy of treats felt like.
There is a litter tray memorial thread here if you would like to post some more photos of her.

Worriesandwobbles · 21/08/2021 21:45

Oh I am so sorry, this wasn't the update I wanted to see, you poor thing. You gave her a chance to experience love x

Shallysally · 21/08/2021 22:37

Oh I’m sorry to read this OP. Thank goodness she was with you and so well cared for and loved Flowers

OP, your kittens symptoms reminded me of a young lady I follow on Instagram, her user name is Vickaboox. She adopted a tiny kitten a few months ago, Taco, who had very similar symptoms, and sadly he didn’t make it either.

She is now working with the police as it became apparent that Taco was just one of a number of kittens who had been bred and I don’t know the full story but it seemed pretty awful.

She was asking for anyone with similar to her in touch with her. I know you are feeling pretty terrible right now, but wonder if perhaps in the coming days you might want to message her and have a chat?

Just a thought. Take care

I'm not a cat owner, but just wanted to say what you did for that beautiful little kitten has moved me to tears, you are such a wonderful person to have loved and taken care of her so much for her last few days, so sorry she didn't make it but you gave her everything and made the kindest decision xx

Mumdiva99 · 21/08/2021 22:59

So sorry for your updates. What a lucky kitten to have found you for her last few days.

userxx · 21/08/2021 23:00

God, this is so sad. Unbelievably hard for you, but ever so lucky for her that she ended up with you. You did your very best for her.

GinLimeandLemonade · 21/08/2021 23:14

I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers

Ellmau · 21/08/2021 23:54

Oh dear, how very sad. So sorry, OP.

ItsSnowJokes · 22/08/2021 08:13

Thank you all so much for all your messages. It is still so tough and raw here. My daughter has cried for 20 minutes asking for her kitten this morning. I am also just getting angrier and angrier about the situation.

My daughter has asked for another kitten, but I can't even think about it. It took 7 years after my last one to get this one. And this happens. 😪

I have only just caught up with this thread and I am so so sorry for your loss. Thank you for giving all your love to this precious girl. Thank goodness she knew real kindness before she had to go. Your 'friend' should feel such shame at the way she has behaved but if you can treat an animal the way she has I doubt she will. I hope your daughter is ok
