DCat and DKitten not getting on again

I posted about this before. We got DKitten about a year ago (she was rescued from the gutter in Greece) and it took quite a long time before she and DCat settled down to some kind of truce. There has never been any loving washing and cuddling but they will sit near each other on the bed or sofa quite happily and both sleep on the bed with us. There is the odd scrap, when DKitten decides she wants to play with DCat’s twitching tail, but he just takes himself off to one of his hiding places.

I am away for work at present and DH (who doesn’t like DKitten at all - predictably she loves him and spends hours draped over his shoulder purring) called in a rage, saying that they had had a fight, provoked by DKitten, and that DCat had run off and had a massive wee and poo on our bed.

We are going on holiday soon, and I am wondering if it might be best for DKitten to go and stay with a friend, either just while we are away, or permanently. But last time DKitten went away, DCat spent all of his time looking for her and yowling constantly (the cat sitter said she could hear him, yow, yow, yow, before she’d even got into the block).

I don’t know what to do for the best. It might be that the cats are missing me (DCat sleeps on my pillow, DKitten next to me) or it might be that the Feliway has run out, or it might just be that this is the end of the truce.

Probably just missing you, you know how cats are for not liking change.

I’d buy a waterproof mattress and duvet protecter though if you’ve got one who’ll wee on the bed. I’ve got a WP mattress protecter and you can’t tell when you sleep on it.

I would keep them both at home but shut them out of the bedrooms. If they pee on your mattress on day one your bed will be ruined.

They are already shut out of the other bedrooms - largely because DH keeps a load of his crap in there. And DCat got shut in one night and peed and pooped on the bed (fortunately one with a waterproof mattress cover).

Oh dear!

I would stop them coming into your room unless you're in there too - ours are shut downstairs unless someone is home as the youngest can't be trusted not to get into mischief Wink
