Fleas!

Argh, I’m going crazy here! Two cats, aged 13, both have fleas. It’s my fault - they have missed 3 months of flea treatment as I forgot to renew my subscription.

They had fleas when we got them as tiny kittens and were too small for treatment so we bathed them, and got the flea comb out nightly, washed everything and sorted the problem out quite quickly.

This time it’s a nightmare. They had a spot on treatment 3 weeks ago. I’ve chucked them in a flea treatment shampoo bath. Sprayed all the areas of the house they access to. Hot washed all sofa cushions. Hoover every day. Cats still seem to be riddled. One of them will sit on my lap and let me go with the flea comb for about 10 mins until he gets fed up and swats me off. The other won’t even let me get close.

I really don’t know what to do! I do think the spot on treatment I tried initially was dud, as it wasn’t a front line one, but I can’t do a proper treatment of that for about 10 days. Do I wait it out, keep combing and try the FrontLine? Or do they need something stronger from the vets? Do I lock them in? Lock them out? I really don’t know.

I’m so worried about them. Sad

I’d get them to a vet for advocate etc and a program injection to stop the fleas breeding. The injection lasts 6 months.

Thanks @Fluffycloudland77 - I didn’t realise that was a thing and sounds exactly what they need. I’ll give them a call in the morning.

In terms of house/ furniture I will obviously continue as I am for the foreseeable future but are the flea bomb things worth it? We have wooden floors and only carpeting is on stairs (which they do have access to) but I wonder if it’s worth trying one on stair case and another near sofas to kill any remaining. Or is spray/ hoovering sufficient?
