Omg I am so excited!

Going to collect my first ever (Persian) kitten at 6pm. I live in a second floor flat.

Any must know tips/hints/tricks for a first time kitten mummy? 😂

How do I show her where the litter tray is etc?

How often do they eat/drink? Anything you know! Xx

Ask what kind of litter they use and get the same type so it's easy for her to recognise the litter tray.

You should confine your new kitty in one room for the first few days. If you use the litter she is used to, she will smell the tray and know to use it.

Leave food and water out. Kittens eat little and often - their stomachs are the size of a walnut. Most cats self-regulate and eat what they need but there should be a guide to portions on the cat food you buy. Fresh water should always be available.

Find out if she drinks cat milk, too.

Also, 'kitten-proof' any small spaces where she might try to get in - kittens are notorious for hiding in awkward places - behind washing machines, up chimneys etc. so you need to block them off if you can. Be prepared for her to climb your curtains. You'd be amazed where a kitten can get!

You'll need to get her into a grooming routine - I've never had a long-haired cat so can't really advise on this, but as with most things, the younger you get them used to it, the easier your life will be.

She's absolutely lovely.

Another point - keep her on the same food she's used to for the time being. If you want to change the food once she's settled, you'll need to mix the old food and new, gradually increasing the ratio of the latter. A sudden change in food is a recipe for diarrhoea in cats.

Get a metal comb and a tangle teaser. Regular hygiene trims are a good idea. Persians are just the best!

Buy a cat brush. Keep her water away from where her food is, and change the water every day. Buy a really soft cat blanket for her to snuggle into, so she doesn’t miss her mum.

Be even more careful with windows than you think, they can squeeze out of the tiniest gap. I recommend Flat Cats for windows; they are less noticeable than you would think, keep the cats in, let breezes in, and keep most insects out.

Didn't realise Persians have big round eyes when they are kittens.

Accept you will be scared for the first week at least. Scared you might hurt her accidentally, scared she has escaped, scared she is not eating/drinking/pooping other than that enjoy!!

She is so sweet! Definitely get a cat brush they are shedding machines and daily brushing helps her with grooming and prevents matted fur, plus they love it! Under the chin is a sure winner!

My longhaired Persians shed a lot less than my exotic shorthair!
