Rescue cat & my return to work

I have a rescue cat. I’ve had him for 2 & a half years and he’s now very settled with me. He’s 4 & a half.
I’ve been working from home pretty much since March 21. In a few months I’ll be back work, maybe not every day but a few days a week.
My cat of course sleeps most of the day & isn’t terribly playful. He’s sweet natured, doesn’t climb, fight or scratch so is pretty near perfect.
I’m wondering if I should get a kitten to keep him company? Not sure he’d be comfortable with another cat but think a kitten might work best.
Wondering if anyone has any thoughts? My cat has to be the priority. Worried he’ll miss the company that’s all

Most cats prefer to be alone to sharing their space with another cat.

He'll adept and sleep when you are out and being an annoying pain in the arse demanding your attention the minute you get home.

No I would advise you not to
I mean sure there are times when this will work out but there are many times it won't.
This is a very human way of thinking, (about getting a kitten to keep him company) cats don't think like that

We’ve been working from home since last March and I am sure our cat is desperate for the house to herself again! She does enjoy having people to let her in and out the back door all day, and she likes a Teams meeting, but I think she would be more than happy sleeping peacefully all day.

I am also 100% certain she would move out if we got a kitten.

I think your cat would think it was a disastrous idea!

I can't imagine a worse time to be getting a kitten.

Does your cat have access to the outdoors?

Cats often aren't mad keen on other catsvthst aren't litter mates. Our two came as a pair from rescue and tolerate each other - but theres no affection.
Cat will be fine alone all day - leave him with plenty of toys and food and he'll soon get used to the change in routine.
