We got a kitten about a week ago and so far have been keeping windows closed. I keep mine open a crack, would she take a flying leap if I opened it more? My house feels like the heating is on Angry hot, not angry Grin

If it’s wide enough for her to get out then yes she will try!

belimoo · 29/07/2021 21:31

Yep, my kitten ended up on the roof because I thought opening it a little more wouldn't hurt 🙀

belimoo · 29/07/2021 21:31

And mine was a skylight which I thought he had no chance of reaching! (He's safe and well)

Duckypoohs · 29/07/2021 21:33

My instincts were correct then, damn. Guess il have to keep her in one room and air out the rest.

belimoo, how did you get him down?

Ours used to fling himself, in flying squirrel position, at the glass in our internal kitchen doors in order to try and get into the hall. They’ll try anything (and ours has always been a fairly dumb cat).

I accidentally left my windows open.
One of my kittens jumped from the third floor bedroom to next doors second storey roof. Then jumped from the roof to the floor- luckily no injuries!

belimoo · 29/07/2021 22:07

Oh my gosh, look at those ears! 😻 What a beauty.

Well, I'm embarrassed to say I wasn't sure what to do after I panicked, tried to call him in and despite his best efforts he kept slipping back down the roof because his little claws couldn't grip the roof tiles.

Thankfully my more pragmatic dp threw a big bath towel over the tiles and kitten was able to climb up it far enough for me to scoop him back inside sobbing.

Can you fit a fly screen to the window?

Oldraver · 30/07/2021 14:11

You can get something called Flat Cats for your windows though I made mine as it was an odd size

I got silicon mesh and Velcro from Amazon

icedcoffees · 30/07/2021 14:25

You can get fly screens to put over the windows - we had them when we lived in a flat and they worked perfectly.

We just used mesh and ex-DP attached it to a wooden frame, and we put them against the windows and attached fasteners to them so we could move them to open/close the windows.

We had two cats and I one did occasionally try and climb the mesh and get stuck Grin

You need to either keep the windows shut and slowly cook, or keep her to one room while windows are open, Otherwise she wil try to get out even a tiny gap. At best, she will get stuck and need rescuing, at worst she could wander off and get lost. I've seen so many posts on FB lately along the lines of "my indoor cat got out through an open window" then their poor cat disappears completely.
