Just seen my cat eat a garden daisy… are these poisonous? I couldn’t get it off him in time. Is there anything I should do?

I've seen my cat eat a rat, part of a doughnut, chicken Madras amongst many other things and grass etc is on the daily menu. I wouldn't worry

Ok! Hes gone straight for his water bowl and drank quite a bit of water , I don’t know if that’s a bad sign?!

Daisys are fine for humans to eat.

There are heaps of reference sites that list which plants are [not] hazardous to cats but there’s a James Wellboved blog entry about plants that are poisonous to cats & dogs, which says of daisies:
daisies are far less toxic than most other plants listed here, but are known to irritate some cats and dogs, as well as being poisonous if consumed in high quantities…even if your pet is only exhibiting minor symptoms, your vet should always be consulted when you suspect poisoning.

My guess from that would be that a single daisy for a healthy adult cat wouldn’t require a vet trip unless they seemed unwell.

Realise I’m late replying, but was mostly after saying:

  1. I hope your cat (& you) are ok now.
  2. If you’ve reason to suspect plant poisoning, seeking vet help = key.
  3. As well as the James Wellbeloved guide I linked to above, the ASPCA have a very thorough list of plants which are safe for cats (& those which are not); Cats Protection have created a set of resources that divide up indoor & outdoor plants & even look at cut flowers; & Gardeners’ World have a whole plan for creating a cat-safe garden…
