Miaowing and won't settle

I've had my 2yr old male for 7 months. He is neutered. He's been really affectionate, but in the last week or so, has started jumping up on the sofa and miaowing really insistently. He circles round me, jumping on the back of the sofa behind me and has now swiped me 3 or 4 times. I really don't know what he's trying to tell me. Is it the heat? He's always been so content to sit on my knee, but maybe it's too hot for that? I don't know what to do. I can't relax with him here as I don't want to be jumped from behind and he must be trying to communicate something!

It could be down to the heat, but I wonder if it's a thyroid problem. I think he's a bit young, but you never know. Has he lost weight and become very active? These can also be signs of hyperthyroidism. I'd be inckined to take him to the vet, if it continues.

He's lost a kilo, but I'd been told he needed to and I suspect he'd been eating other cats' food at the foster house. He is fighting quite a bit with a local tom if that is relevant. He seems less antsy in the morning. He's also cuffed and scratched my daughter last night too.
