I'm the same and use dry and wet food for my cats, but have always used Science Diet as it's a 'complete' cat food, rather than some dry foods which are more like snack in terms of nutrition etc. You can buy it from Pets at Home - it's a little pricier but if you're using it on its own I'd definitely recommend so your cat isn't hungry.
They do a variety of flavours and ones for senior cats

I give my cat half a sachet of wet food a day (a whole one in hot weather) and her primary food is Purina complete. We've used royal canin I think it's called in the past too. Both well received.

I have always used James Wellbeloved. Cats are 16 and 15, never lost a tooth, lovely teeth and health
