Keeping cat cool

Am frankly melting in this heat and worried about trying to keep the animals cool too. It's been fairly easily with the elderly pup. I've just been wrapping him in tepid towels which he dislikes but will tolerate and he will at least lie on a cooling mat.

Unsure what to do about v furry cat though. She's not herself, not eating and I've not seen her drink much. Can't hose her down if I want to escape with my life and she insists on scaling the fences exploring so she's not even in the shade. Am I being neurotic? She's three so not overly vulnerable due to age unlike the dog

Any tips?

No it sounds concerning about the not eating / drinking.
I've heard both cats and dogs regulate body temperature through their paws , so an ice cube or damp cold towel on their paw pads can help. You can get cooling mats for them to lie on too.

I give mine kitten milk to make sure they are drinking during this heat.

I've been trying to get her to lie on the dogs cooling mat when he's not using it but as usual madam does the opposite of what I suggest. She's just had a big drink so I feel better about that but will watch closely.

Good idea re paw pads. I'll grab her when she's asleep. May be a two man job #tortieproblems

Try to feed her late at night or early morning when it’s cooler.
