Help with Fleas !

Our kittens about 18 weeks old have flea and one of our rooms definitely has a flea infestation in the carpet. The other rooms downstairs don't have carpet so seem ok at the moment.

We haven't even booked the kittens in to the vets yet but I have bought them and applied frontline plus flea and tick treatment.

I have also used a can of rento kill flea spray on the room that is definitely affected . Plus washing the throws and cushions that are on the sofas in the room.

How long will it take for the frontline to work? And is there anything else I need to do?

Also how did the kittens get fleas... They have not even been out yet ?

Thanks

Personally, we use Broadline now as found Frontline ineffective. We get a prescription from the vets but found it much cheaper to buy online and it covers worms too.

You can check for flea dust, to see if they’re still carrying fleas.

I would probably treat the whole house, I recommend Indorex, but you want to use it and go outside for a bit. Kills everything.

I have a repeating calendar entry and do flea treatment every month on my cats as they are outdoorsy. Regularly hot wash their bed and do the same with any other soft furnishings they sleep on.

Thanks it's been 48 hrs and I have just seen a live flea on one of the kittens

Can i treat them again with a different treatment or should I wait 4 weeks ?

You need to get advice from your vets before you use additional treatments.

Frontline is mostly useless. The only non prescription flea treatment that works is Advantage, but you need advice first.

Seek advice from the vets. I wouldn’t double dose with something else, can make them ill and yours are young.

We had this. Got our 2 kittens at 12 weeka, at 13 weeks we realised they had fleas fron the rescue place. Luckily they hadn't yet been upstairs and doenstaira had no carpet. We were isolating so couldn't see a vet but we bought advantage and treated them. Then we hoovered all the soft furnishings, sprayed everywhere and washed all cat bedding, blankets, rugs and cushion covers.
A week later they still had one or two fleas so we have just kept hoovering and washing everything, and sprayed the rooms again. They are seeing a vet next week so we will probably buy something stronger than advantage from them.

Excuse the typos.
