I have two cats, a boy and a girl who are now just over one, we got them 8 weeks apart. They've always got on okay. I've just had the boy neutered and have been letting them both out. Since then the female has become very aggressive to the male whenever he comes back in, hissing and trying to attack him. She hasn't been neutered yet as she has shown no signs of being in season. Has anyone had this before?

Please get your female spayed! You're lucky you haven't had kittens already as brothers will mate with sisters. I hope she is an indoor cat

Your boy will smell different if he's been at the vet. Maybe rub a cloth over her and then over him to transfer smells

dementedpixie · 12/07/2021 20:32

You've been letting an unspayed female out?
Are you crazy?
She could be pregnant already

Alicenwonderland · 12/07/2021 20:40

They aren't brother and sister. Also we want kittens.

dementedpixie · 12/07/2021 20:42

Why in earth do you want kittens? So you just want her knocked up by some random Tom cat?

EachandEveryone · 12/07/2021 20:42

This is going to go well........

Alicenwonderland · 12/07/2021 20:43

Why on earth not? Thanks for the helpful advice about scent, judgemental comments, not so thankful!

Alicenwonderland · 12/07/2021 20:44

I'm guessing you're worried about the random Tom cat not paying kitten support, no worries, we can afford to support her as a single mum. 🤣🤣

Not having your female cat spayed is utterly irresponsible.

Alicenwonderland · 12/07/2021 21:12

I genuinely don't understand the problem! She is not a kitten now, she is a fully grown cat. She will have a litter of kittens that we care for and rehome, then she will be spayed. I've had cats and kittens in the past, I pay for the premium pet insurance, my cats are incredibly well cared for. I'm a 43 year old mum of 4 with a large house, garden, good income...I honestly can't believe the judgmental comments on an innocent post. I've only ever had good experiences on here before, I'm quite shocked actually that total strangers who don't even read the original post (I didn't say they were siblings) feel they can be nasty to a complete stranger who was only asking for advice!

But why do you want her to have kittens, are you planning to sell them? Just curious

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/07/2021 21:14

Yes we’re all worried about Tom cats not paying child support 🙄

dementedpixie · 12/07/2021 21:14

It's because there are plenty of unwanted kittens out there already without them being added to.

Alicenwonderland · 12/07/2021 21:17

Growing up my cat had kittens. I was 8 and it was my best childhood experience. I wanted that for my children, I already have friends who would like a kitten as they adore her, she is very sweet and has a fabulous temperament. I will not sell them, I will keep one and will rehome the others to family and friends. It's definitely not a money making exercise! I paid a fortune for my two, (lockdown kittens!) we gave my kittens to good homes for free when I was young and I think this is the best way.

OP posts:
Alicenwonderland · 12/07/2021 21:18

They won't be unwanted! Tom cat kitten support was a joke! 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 12/07/2021 21:20

If they weren't siblings then why didn't you use your own 2 cats as mates? At least you would have known the father and that they had no health iasues

elsaesmeralda · 12/07/2021 21:21

But then, haven't your children already experienced this with your lockdown kittens ?

Alicenwonderland · 12/07/2021 21:24

I tried. My boy was ready but she wasn't. I had him spayed as it wasn't fair on him, he was desperate to go out (I didn't let him out as guess what, I'm not an irresponsible pet owner!) and he was spraying all around the house and yowling! The Vet says she could just be a late developer as she hasn't had a season yet. I personally don't think it will happen, she spent all that time with a boy cat in heat and no kittens!

OP posts:
Alicenwonderland · 12/07/2021 21:25

It's different to watch them being born, it's an amazing experience.

OP posts:
SalsaLove · 12/07/2021 21:26

It’s just incredibly irresponsible to bring another litter of kittens into the world when there are millions already languishing in shelters and on the streets. Your children don’t need the experience of your poor cat being pregnant and giving birth. And you have four yourself. 😳

Alicenwonderland · 12/07/2021 21:27

I have given up on the kitten idea, I live in an affluent area and there don't seem to be many Tom cats roaming around!

No actually you are a very irresponsible pet owner!
elsaesmeralda · 12/07/2021 21:28

Oh don't get me wrong they're very cute when their eyes are still closed etc, I also grew up with cats and kittens so I get the appeal. But you hear of people just breeding their animals and flogging them on which is why people get funny about it

Alicenwonderland · 12/07/2021 21:29

I have two cats, four children. Thanks again for the comments and judgment. Bowing out now as obviously people have their opinions and are sticking to them like glue!! Have a good evening!

OP posts:
Alicenwonderland · 12/07/2021 21:31

As I said that isn't me!! Seriously!!! Some of these comments are horrible! None of you know me. Does it give you a buzz to be nasty to others?

OP posts:
Allergictoironing · 12/07/2021 23:14

We are all just concerned that if your cat has 4 kittens, that's 4 fewer potential owners for all the unwanted cats & kittens flooding the rescues. Your kittens may be homed well, but at the expense of others who may have found a place in those homes.
