Help me chose a kitten

So far I've seen two. My own requirement is that they are maine coon which both are half. Dp likes one I like the other. Due to see one later but isnt maine coon (however very fluffy). So...
Dp likes the first cat we saw as he was the perfect temperament we wanted. We want a cat that will be present. This cat is very laid back and cuddly. He rolled over and demanded belly rubs instantly and was purring. He was cute but I didnt feel very fond of him. He is already 4 months.

The second kitten is what I wanted in looks. He is so handsome! However it was hard to tell his personality as we was only allowed to hold him outside due to sellers precautions from covid. He came across very bland and scared. The seller told us he is quite energetic, tries to escape and climb. He is 9 weeks and it was his first time outside. We barely had any interaction with him.

So all things given, we must make our minds up today. Both sellers have asked we get back to them asap. I'm only apprehensive of the second kitten as I dont really want an outdoor cat that may not want to know me, and do prefer a more chilled cuddly cat. However i know he is only 9 weeks, so is his personality set in stone or is he bound to change? The first kitten which dp liked is a safer option I guess as we already know he is quite placid being 4 months old.

We are seeing the third one later so I will update on that.

Obviously both dkittens... Drops the damage to soft furnishings by at least 50 %..
And arms and legs can stay intact also...

Can you have the Maine Coone half of each one? 😂

I'd say kitten 1. Personality is more important than looks long term. He's bound to be a bit less appealing right now being that bit older, but the cute kitten stage doesn't last long and then you're left with the personality forever.

There is absolutely no way to know at this age how a cat will turn out.

If you want a specific character/personality you are better off adopting an adult cat from a reputable rescue.

@ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn I was wondering if their personalities right now was telling of how they was going to be or if it's still going to change

You really can't tell what their characters are until you get them home and they settle in. Also a kitten's behaviour is not always indicative of what it will be like as an adult.
Not sure from whom you are buying, but I suspect being 'half' Maine Coon they are probably from 'amateur' breeders so be very careful that they have done health checks, cats are flea and worm treated, vaccinated and chipped.
All things being equal I'd go for the four month old who is friendly, and will be less 'kittenish' (i.e. destructive) to your house.
Personally I'd never only get one kitten though...

Mostly here for a shameless plug of my own MC Charlie (here with my DP fixing up the garage). He was my cat but he's now DP's little shadow.

Personally I would go with the one that rolled over and purred, and he's already confident and open to people. The other one might need a allot of socialization and/or never get used to strangers. Btw laid back is not the same as placid. Charlie is VERY laid back, but loves to play tag and hurdles over boxes all day every day.

In any case, congrats on welcoming a new furry member to your family!

As an example, when the BT engineer came to check my boiler, Charlie spent 10 mins watching him, decided he liked him, and promptly climbed on his back to get a better look. Engineer has cats himself so he was completely tickled. Charlie also loves to have his own seat in the living room when we have guests, and meows to participate in the conversation. TBF we suspect he's more human than cat!
