Hello
Advice please!
I just wrote a really long thread and then lost it, so this time I'm going to be brief.
Any experience with gabapentin and cats?
Especially in relation to grooming a matty Maine coon?
Thoughts please!
Thank you

My cat Basil is currently on Gabapentin (in addition to a cocktail of other drugs) as a painkiller for his bladder issues.
No adverse effects.

Thank you.
It's to sedate her, so I imagine that it must be a high dose.
DH has gone to the vets to fetch it.

Basil was initially on 50mg twice a day, dose now reduced to 25mg once per day.
Haven't noticed any hint of sedation at any point.

Hello again, her dosage is 0.75ml, which from what I can make out is 750mg!

I have to give my cat gabapentin as a sedative because he will not go to the vets - hissing, spitting, generally kicking up a fuss every time we go. The last time we went after he had the gabapentin he was so chilled and dopey. Affects wore off after around 8 hours and nothing adverse. Hope this helps!

It has a mixed effect in some cats it's brilliant and they are very compliant in others it makes no difference at all.

Thank you! That sounds promising.
She got thrown out of the vet last week, mid groom. She freaked out and hid under a table.
When she got home she was as happy as Larry, so fortunately not traumatised.
She is s huge drama queen.
I've got the gabapentin, and my plan is to groom her myself. I've got some Wahl pet clippers.

Oh dear, less promising.
Hopefully I've got the right type of cat!
