Hi,
We have had our kittens for one week and they are booked in at the vets for second vaccinations next week as this week are self isolating.
Just found they have fleas. What should I do? Thanks

Can anyone else take them to the vet during the week? I just don't want your house to be infested and or the kittens to become weak or poorly

Thanks. So I have contacted a vet friend and waitingfor her to respond before I do too much. Luckily the cats have not yet been allowed upstairs. They are confined to one room for now! I have hoovered the rest of downstairs and left the hoover outside. I contacted their foster carer and she told me they had been sprayed with effipro. I have ordered house spray to arrive tomorrow from amazon.

Also washed the throws and hoovered the sofas. Luckily we don't have carpet.
@Sausagis, go to the vet and get a proper prescription flea treatment please I'm meaning that kindly x
OP already said she was self isolating and that's why she can't go to the vet herself

dementedpixie · 03/07/2021 19:58

Effipro also seems to be fipronil based so may be ineffective against fleas

Sounds like you're doing a good job. Just be aware that that a flea can jump from the bottom of the stairs to the top in one leap so don't forget to treat the whole house

Sausagis · 03/07/2021 20:45

@dementedpixie - Ludos comment was for me. Sorry for any thread hijack. I'm not isolating (except maybe isolating from the cat, since I can't cope with many more flea bites), and will go to the vet.

Thanks to everyone who commented. Vet friend said advantage is worth a try and I have a friend who can get to pets at home and deliver me the goods today, phew! Will definitely be getting treatments from rhe vets in future. They are all booked in for vaccinations and neutering - feeling much better about their wellbeing now.

@dementedpixie I think you'll find sausagis wasn't the OP

Twokitstwokats · 06/07/2021 07:21

Update. After washing everything and keeping the cats in one room for 24 hours I put a washed blanket back in there. They slept in it, I looked at at, 3 live fleas. Trying not to panic!

Have you used the treatment? As the fleas jump on the cats they will get killed

Twokitstwokats · 06/07/2021 09:53

Yes we put advantage on them Sunday afternoon.
