Does your cat ever make you late for work?

My dcats tend to sleep outside at night now as it's very warm here; I wake up around 6.30am, let them all in for their breakfast and go back to bed for an hour with my coffee and newspaper mumsnet This morning, after my shower I found Kloppy lying on my bed, purring his head off giving me the slow blinking smilez Hmm I had to sit with him and give him a fuss for ten minutes all the while looking at the clock.

Made it into work at 08.01 and blamed the traffic 😹

You're washed, dressed, journeyed and at work in half an hour??? Shock

Beamur · 18/06/2021 20:08

Ha ha. I have been known when very busy to nonetheless find time to sit down and snuggle cats. They're very good at making you assess your priorities..

When one of mine was a kitten, she got behind the washing machine and I had to pretty much take apart the skirting boards to get her out again!

You go back to-bed for an hour? Amazing.

Im up at 530 then i feed the strays outside my back door and gently throw my own put of the kitchen window. Make coffee get in shower, drink coffee put my make up on then call mine in. Thats the hard part. It could take two minutes or twenty. If it gets to twenty I have to leave them out and get my neighbour to ket them in. They dont make me late but they make me worried going to work.

JoanOgden · 18/06/2021 20:19

I have mixed views about working from home, but have to admit that being able to snuggle the cat while writing emails is a definite advantage.

Eleoura · 18/06/2021 20:23

Get a cat flap and enjoy the extra time in bed!

purrswhileheeats · 18/06/2021 20:24

I do all the cat admin (cat-min?) at 6.30am - feeding and cleaning bowls etc. Then I retire to my bed and charge up on caffeine before facing the world Grin

Yes, please tell us more. Before you write a book about it. I need coffee, make up (to save scaring other humans). All this takes much longer! D cat get 5 mins scratchy time and no longer! Grin
purrswhileheeats · 18/06/2021 20:38

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants:

Shower and teeth - ten minutes
Dressed - ten minutes
Hair and makeup - ten minutes

Cuddling cats - extra five minutes 😁

Yes. Cheddar demands to be picked up and cuddled after I get out of the shower. I make it on time, but it's a bit tight at times.

purrswhileheeats · 18/06/2021 21:08

What can you do when a kitty demands cuddles, you can't just ignore them? 😿

cupsofcoffee · 19/06/2021 08:26

Yep @purrswhileheeats - I came downstairs and couldn't find her and just heard loads of squeaking 🤣

DH had to get a drill out and remove the skirting boards to get her out again - she was filthy but otherwise totally unharmed 🙈

juneybean · 19/06/2021 08:30

Oh yes, I mean I'm working from home currently but some days I have been 2 foot away from my desk on the sofa and she's sat upon me for cuddles and I've had to log on from my phone 😂

Temp023 · 19/06/2021 08:36

My cat has made me late for work once, when I drove halfway there and realised she was sitting in the backseat footwell.

Working from home now of course!

AndeanMountainCat · 19/06/2021 09:01

This was years ago, when I was lodging with friends.

I was rushing through the lounge on my way out to work. I went to grab my puffa jacket, which was draped on the couch. There was resistance, and I thought, Christ this is heavy! I pulled it again, and Fat Thomas emerged looking disgruntled. He had somehow managed to cosily cocoon himself in it, and I ruined his repose.

It was such a surreal moment, but it gave me a laugh for the day.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 19/06/2021 09:27

I don’t have a cat (I’m trying- I will have one!) but the cat from two doors down often makes me late. He’s a big old ginger Tom with no teeth, and he honestly has a huge local fan base. He lays out on his front garden every day and people actually make special detours to see him and wait their turn for a stroke. If he’s out on my way to work I obviously stop and give him a fuss.

Last week with the windows all open I heard a plaintive yowling noise and rushed over to see said cat underneath in our communal scrub outside the flat. I thought the poor old boy was injured but no, he was shagging the pretty young grey cat from across the road. He stopped after a while as he was probably knackered but she went after him again and laid on her belly in front of him until he got back on Shock

I hope at least one of them has been done so they don’t have kittens (although if they do I will beg to adopt one)

bonzo77 · 19/06/2021 09:29

DCat will not tolerate cuddles. She allows certain kinds of scritches sometimes. She does like to sit heavily on my limbs or hair and growl at me if I move. She’s never scratched me but can get a bit bitey. So I can’t move and this has made me late.

hartof · 19/06/2021 10:04

Yes he sits here whilst I get ready and is such a distraction 😍

I have "cat cuddling" time factored in to when I get up for work - Boycat HAS to have bed cuddles first thing which can last up to 20 minutes, Girlcat needs her stroking session, and Boycat will sit on the sofa looking forlornly at me when I'm almost ready to leave wanting to be picked up. So I do get up at least 30 mins earlier than I would have to if I didn't cuddle cats.

However they did make me late yesterday. Almost ready to leave, went into the front room to put my outdoor shoes on and planted my heel (luckily wearing slippers) into a lovely fresh pile of slimy vomit. Slipped & went flying (laminate flooring). Strained hamstring, bruised hip, tweaked back, vomit needed to be cleaned up & trousers changed.

Then Boycat needed an extra cuddle because he was so upset at me going flying. Luckily they can be quite relaxed about such things in my current job, plus it was hammering down so I would have had to stay in the car for a while anyway until it eased up.

Youngatheart00 · 19/06/2021 10:24

Yep. My cat likes to get in bed with me, under the duvet, snuggle in and purr. How could I leave her?! Thankfully I’m WFH so there is a fair bit of emailing from bed first thing!
