Cat dandruff

Has anyone successfully treated cat dandruff.

Our wee girl is all black. Her coat is actually really soft and shiny but she does have a fair bit of dandruff. I spoke to the vets and she didn't seem fussed about it.

I try and brush her as much as she'll tolerate but I was wondering if I could maybe buy some sort of supplement?

Both cats are moulting like crazy just now so I don't know if thats making it look worse?

Salmon oil is amazing. You can get it off Amazon. Most cats like the taste but if yours doesn't like it then squeeze a pump on her paw. Use everyday but if you do put on her paw make sure to alternate so that it doesn't get over licked.

Oh thank you. Ill have a look into that.

Yes. I use salmon oil on my two as well.

I've bought a bottle so ill see how i get on. She puffed her coat up this morning when she was playing with her brother and it was so noticeable so fingers crossed the oil helps!!

Well of course both are refusing to eat their food with the oil in it!
I put some on her paw and she just ignored it so I washed it off as I was worried she'd get it all over the sofa!

I had a cat (long haired) who seemed to get dandruff near his bum and tail (we called it Feline Arse Dandruff).

I took him to the vet, they looked at it under a microscope then gave him a good spray with some sort of anti microbe spray.
He came out sopping wet but it did the trick.

If they really hate it I’d bin it. You can get cod liver oil for cats. It’s worth emailing the manufacturers for little samples before you commit.

Thats a good idea re samples. Bought a 1l bottle by mistake!! Oh well! She loves fish and fish cat food so when i smelt it I really thought she'd like it.

That's exactly where hers is. I might look into that but as i say the vet didn't seem over concerned. She didn't have any dandruff over winter even with all the radiators on which i always felt dried out my old cats skin. Im trying to brush her more as well but shes not a fan of that either!!

One of my dark brown cats had dandruff on his back. I thought about supplements, but actually I solved it just by brushing him - it distributes their natural oils through the coat. I try to brush him at least once a week now.

I bought Ermidra spray from the vet. My cat won't eat salmon or any oily fish. She used to refuse wet food (apart from tinned tuna in spring water) but has recently discovered a brand she likes so is a bit better with the flakes since eating this every day too.
Cat hates the spray so I only do it when I absolutely must. Her fur is also lovely and shiny, and her skin is clear, so not sure why this affects some cats and not others

I'll look into this now. Thanks. Funnily enough ours isn't keen on wet fed and would much prefer all dry. I do give her a little wet mushed up and she seems to tolerate that.
