Cat flap

Does anyone know how to lock a cat flap? I’ve just moved and have an indoor cat, currently I have a box against the cat flap, I also have two highly intelligent inquisitive toy poodles who will figure it out within minutes and are the perfect size to get out of the cat flap, they’re due home tomorrow so I need to fix it by then Confused

Depends what sort of catflap. Mine has a wee dial you turn to lock and unlock (also has in only and out only settings)

Thank you, I’ve just had a look and can’t see any sort of dial, I’m suddenly wondering if it’s a magnetic one although I can force it open with my foot. I’m thinking gaffa tape for the time being

Post up a picture of it. We had a magnetic one but you could still lock it.

We tried locking our current microchip one and the cat pulled the front off it and removed the batteries trying to get out.

Cardboard and duct tape. If you want it removed, depending on the door, it should be easy for a joiner to either replace the panel or to put a panel over.

I've got the issue of wanting to shut mine at night. If I just lock it and they can see out they try and batter it which will eventually work so I've got a joiner making me a shutter. I currently have a barricade of boxes.

This is the front and back of the cat flap, I can do cardboard and duck tape definitely if it comes to it, anything to keep my pets nice and safe

I dont see a picture

dementedpixie · 04/06/2021 11:37

Oops, I see it now. Look like a basic one that any cat could go in and out. Mine is operated by microchip but still has a lock on it

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 04/06/2021 11:37

The white plastic side is a slide up and out panel which makes it locked. This was common for flaps before they had the 4 way locks. If you take it out the flap will flap.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 04/06/2021 11:38

Can you see it has a notch at the top to grab it and a pointy arrow at the bottom to show you to lift it.

Goigling the Petsafe catflap it talks about a retractable closing panel so is there anything that slides?

The second picture, with the white side, is the slot in and out locking panel. OP just needs to leave it in place and the flap won't be useable.

Thank you all! This is so helpful and it’s a huge relief to know it does lock so my pets will be safe
