How can I be sure?

A few weeks ago my cat developed a cough, we took him to the vets who took some tests and prescribed antibiotics and steroids, this cleared his cough but it came back a few weeks later. He was then given more antibiotics and his cough has cleared up but the vet said the tests have revealed he has aggressive cancer in both lungs and will need to be pts. He is still eating and drinking, still chasing around and still acting his normal self, he is still happy.

I don't know what to do, obviously I don't want him to suffer but while he still seems well I don't want to have him puts for no reason. I am aware cats can hide their symptoms but could the vet be wrong?

My cat is almost 14 yrs old and I have his two litter siblings also.

What should I do?

If he were mine I’d be just keeping a close eye for deterioration and pts then , if he’s happy and being normal id leave him to enjoy his last days/ weeks / months .

Floralnomad thank you for your reply. I'm just worried he will suddenly take a turn for the worse in the night when contacting a vet will be difficult. This is definitely the worse part of owning a pet.

I wouldn't PTS while he was still happy to play, eat and drink.

I know it's a different breed but I walk a dog who has kidney failure and he has 3-6 months left. But for now he's eating fine, drinking fine and is happy to go for walks and to play tug, so the owners are just making the most of the time they have left.

It is hard - I would just keep an eye out and be prepared to get him to the vet ASAP if he deteriorates.

I'm sorry your boy is poorly Thanks

@Originalyellowbelly don’t overthink it , any animal could suddenly become ill over night . Hopefully it will be sunny for a few days soon and he will be able to enjoy some good snoozing weather . I know everyone says a day early is better than a day late but from your description your cat doesn’t sound ready to go yet .
