Boyfriend's cat might have ringworm

He's being tested so they're not sure yet. Does this mean I shouldn't stay over at my boyfriend's place just in case? Could he potentially spread it to me if we hug (if he somehow caught it off his cat)? What are the best preventative measures to take?

Ringworm is not nice but easily treatable; use an antifungal cream like Canesten or the generic equivalent until it clears up (cats & humans)

Exactly. It's really only a big deal in rescue centres/catteries. It is very infectious but also very easily treated. If you also have cats then I would perhaps be a bit wary, but unless you have hundreds of them then I would carry on as normal.

Is it not a massive faff if you get it though?

Not really. Just stick some cream on it.

To catch it you need a skin abrasion that had contact with the ringworm and then remains moist. Underneath watched is the most common place.
23 years of veterinary practice and a lot of ringworm calves through careful hand drying and plasters to cover minor wounds means I have never caught it.

I got ringworm from a foster dog I had and it was horrible - SO itchy (I didn't realize what it was until it was too late and it had spread quite a bit).

But after a few days of putting anti-fungal cream on it went away.

My DP caught it too but not nearly as bad as me! I think my immune system was struggling that week because I also had a cold.

Don't share towels was the main thing we were told. We avoided cuddling until it had gone away and changed the sheets every morning.

It was a bit of a faff and tbh if I was you I wouldn't stay over until the cat was being treated. It'll only be for a few days

Ringworm is more annoying than anything else. I caught it off our old cats - it was itchy as fuck but cleared up very quickly.

OK I told my boyfriend that I'd rather not stay over until we know for sure what it is and now he's pissed off with me!
