Cheddar has a habit of sitting on the stairs and meowing very loudly for no reason. It suddenly dawned on me that she wants me to take her up to bed. She always goes and sleeps on my bed. 7.30-9.30 in the evening.
Daft feline.

Lazy wee bugger! Uli always comes to bed with whoever is up first, and even sleeps in the basket! (Admittedly he found said basket under the bed, we didn’t plan for it as cat basket)

Leo knows that if I haven't closed the blinds by 10pm or later, his dad will be home soon so he sits in the window and waits for him.

If I close the blinds at 10pm, he toddles up to bed until his dad comes home and lets him back downstairs.

He also meows at me to carry him up, but i'm getting too fat to do it.

I adore Cheddar! She's such a character! Does Snorg do the same?

Gratuitous picture of Leo chilling yesterday, his new favourite place to sit (sometimes he puts his paws on my stomach then looks at me with a quizzical face when baby kicks him).

Snorg doesn't do the same. She doesn't have a routine in the same way cheddar does. She likes to sleep in her teepee and only on my bed if I'm in it. Has the gorgeous Leo had a lion cut?

Tootsie likes sleeping in bed with me too and will give me the “stare” if she thinks I’m up past my approved bed time.

However, the other week, I had to go to A&E and was home really late. Toots wasn’t about to give me the stare. She was in bed and glared at me when I came to bed as she had deemed it hers that night instead

samlh · 17/05/2021 16:52

@Toddlerteaplease unfortunately hes had to have a lion cut.

They partially shaved him when he was at the vets for Gastro and they didn't brush him. When he came home it was too agitating for him and he was already matted (stress grooming we think) so the easiest option was to get it all shaved off and start again.

Not that he minds! He has more freedom to zoom without a full fur coat on :)

Toddlerteaplease · 17/05/2021 21:33

Aww poor Leo.

OP "It suddenly dawned on me that she wants me to take her up to bed"

OMG that is adorable! Will you take her now you've guessed it?

Awww....

Toddlerteaplease · 17/05/2021 22:25

Yes. I absolutely will. I can't believe it's taken so long for the penny to drop. Although she has an awful lot to say for her self. She only ever shouts like this in the evening and only when sitting on the stairs.

Cheddar is amazing- I always read your cat threads Smile

My girl looks directly at me then gently taps the skirting board, which means she wants me to stop whatever I'm doing and let her lie on my chest for a cuddle. She also does it as I settle down to sleep to remind me to move over so she can lie down between me and the edge of the bed (a whole double bed to share and she 'insists' that's the only possible space acceptable Grin) She likes to be near me all the time, and will usually use my hand as a pillow as we sleep. She's a demanding but adorable little madam and I can't imagine how people live without a fluffy overlord.

sashh · 18/05/2021 05:50

Aww, that's so sweet but really OP she has had a hard time training you.

Ostara212 · 18/05/2021 09:26

Do people find their cats sleep all night?

samlh · 18/05/2021 09:55

@Ostara212 Absolutely not.

Leo will happily come up to bed with me, and get on either tree or radiator bed, or husbands pillow.. but he doesn't like staying with me/us all night. As soon as the hubby comes home from work, he comes upstairs and opens the bedroom door and Leo goes downstairs to "sleep"

I'm pretty sure he gets up to all sorts of mischief at night though, we just aren't there to witness it :) Also, he sleeps a lot in the day!

Ostara212 · 18/05/2021 10:22

If I get a cat, my family say it shouldn't be allowed in the bedroom at night as we had one that used to wail for attention all night, i was a kid so slept through it.

I can't imagine shutting a kitty out of the bedroom!

samlh · 18/05/2021 11:40

It depends if you're going to give free roam or close the kitty in.

We only closed him in because he had a nasty habit of peeing in my hallway at night (no where else) but he's super happy in the front room now with all his toys, tree, water etc.

Plus with baby due in June, we don't want him mauling in the moses basket at night (or we don't want to take the risk).

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 18/05/2021 11:45

We make our cats sleep downstairs at night. If we had room for a super king size bed it wouldn’t be an issue, but between the 2 of them they easily take up as much room as a human.

Or dh could sleep on the sofa and the cats could share the bed with me. And they don’t snore!

Toddlerteaplease · 18/05/2021 11:50

@sashh I admit that I have been a bit slow off the mark!
Cheddar is pretty good at sleeping now. She sleeps on the pillow next to me. She used to walks me up for a cuddle, and make biscuits on my face. But she's much better now. She tends to leave me alone if I'm asleep. I've just had blackout blinds fitted which will hopefully stop the early wake ups. Cheddar was a total floozy with the men who fitted them. Grin

Magic used to wake me up trying to decide weather to jump on the bed or not. She'd then March round the bed 3 times before jumping up. I suspect she's getting a bit stiff. So I've put a step for her and she's coming for cuddles much more. They both had a pillow each at 3 am this morning. I did not have one.

I'm glad you worked out the mystery, OP.

Mumdiva99 · 21/05/2021 11:32

My cats were going to sleep downstairs - we started well - shutting the kittens into the kitchen for their safety.

Then....we put a cat bed upstairs as they liked being there during the day.

Then....I didn't have the heart to kick Bobbi out of it to put her downstairs.

Then I said they could stay upstairs on the landing.....

Then Silky would meow loudly outside the bedroom doors....

Now, they have free rein of the kids bedrooms and bathroom.

They sleep well thought and don't wake us up!!!

Heneage · 24/05/2021 21:05

My cat sits and shouts at me when the weather forecast comes on after the 10pm news, telling me "bed time, now, upstairs this minute". He checks when I'm in bed, then sods off outside for the night. He's always on my bed in the morning when I wake though, cos he loves me best.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/05/2021 22:49

My sister stayed the other night. In the spare room. Cheddar was meowing and trying to be let into the spare room, and she wouldn't let her.
