Cat colours

Our kittens went for their first jabs yesterday, and their vaccination records include info about bread and colour. I was surprised to see that one was listed as 'black and white' when to my mind he doesn't look black and white at all- I'd have said he was a grey/brown tabby. I queried it with the vet in case they had their kittens confused, but she said technically that's what he is Confused

But he doesn't look black and white to me! Is there some obscure system of cat colours I've never heard of (like grey horses)? If so, how does it work?

Perhaps the vet sees gold coloured trainers as pink. Your lovely kitten in my eyes is tabby.

GerundTheBehemoth · 11/05/2021 11:17

He's absolutely a brown tabby (with classic/blotched pattern), and doesn't appear to have any white spotting at all - dunno what the vet is on about! Also, adorable.

HectorHalloumi · 11/05/2021 11:19

Erm that's clearly a tabby Grin

FurryGiraffe · 11/05/2021 11:21

Well I'm relieved it's not just me Grin

I am a bit confused by the vet though.

Tabby! Does the vet need a trip to Specsavers?! 😂

HectorHalloumi · 11/05/2021 11:23

Maybe the vet is colour blind? But even then the stripes/markings are still of a tabby. How peculiar Confused

claireb7rg · 11/05/2021 11:26

That cat is very cute but definitely tabby!

My kitten is tabby and white and that is what she is listed as at the vets... Sounds like your vet needs to go to specsavers!

Definitely a tabby. My Persian is Red and gets very offended when people call her ginger. Grin

MyTwoBengals · 11/05/2021 11:56

🤣 at black and white.
You kitten is clearly a tabby with the tabby M on his forehead

ozymandiusking · 13/05/2021 00:48

Definitely a tabby. When you have him chipped, say he's a tabby, as this won't have anything to do with the vet.
Absolutely cuddlesome.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/05/2021 01:10

If that's a black and white cat I'm a rainbow coloured goose

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/05/2021 01:11

He's gorgeous btw. Is his name Giraffe.

Oldraver · 13/05/2021 08:09

I would go as far to say black and white tabby as his colour is quite dark to other tabbies I've seen

But when you describe a cat as just black and white I would assume what the call Tuxedo cat

FurryGiraffe · 13/05/2021 20:48

A tuxedo cat! Yes! That's exactly what black and white says to me. He is not that!

His name is Oliver. He is indeed very cuddlesome. He was cautious at first but is now keen for cuddles, and has a brilliant lawnmower purr.
