I'm I absolute bits. My 5 yo cat has always had problems with his teeth/gums. Vets think a hereditary virus (his sister has it too but not to anywhere near the Same degree)he had all but 4 teeth removed a few years back and all been OK. Until recently his cheek swelled up so took him to the vet who suggested taking the remaining teeth out to see if that helped. Unfortunately while doing this they managed to break his jaw, so he's currently got a wire in and 1 tooth left. The vet said the inflammation in his mouth/throat is really bad and if it were a human they'd be in agony. A week after the op they gave him a long lasting steroid injection and said if this doesn't work we should consider euthanasia. I'm taking him back next week to see if it has been working, but I don't think it has :( The vet has said it could possibly have turned to cancer but they won't do a biopsy as the treatment is the same regardless (pdsa)
The thing is though, he's the same cat he's always been. So loving, still annoys his sister, still manages to eat (I buy him gravy Cat food, but he sometimes chooses the biscuits) he doesn't seem in any pain at all, but I know cats don't always show it. So how can I decide? It's tearing me up and I don't think I can make the decision. But know I need to.
