How old is/was your oldest cat?

My two are both 12 (same little) and show no signs of slowing down yet. My dog-cat (so called as he follows me around like a lost puppy) is still glued to my feet/lap/head, the other still goes out on patrol 6-7 times a day. But as I reached for the senior food again today I started to feel a bit morbid and worried that we’re in the remaining years now.

I know it varies, but how long did your oldies live for?

(Dog-cat picture attached just because he’s starting to look like a grumpy old man).

How old is/was your oldest cat?

Willoughby was 22/23

My current cat is 3, can't imagine being without her

Seafog · 09/05/2021 04:09

24, 22, and three made it to 20
We were lucky to live on a farm, on a trail, not a road, so no passing traffic, no neighbour dogs to chase them, and lots of exercise with hundreds of acres to roam.

17

Sooty. She was 20+. You could have a conversation with her. I get upset just thinking about her.

MaudesMum · 09/05/2021 18:31

Mine is 17. She's started looking and behaving like an old cat in the last year or so. She's lost weight, and is quite deaf and does this middle of the night yowling thing, which I think might be some sort of dementia. On the other hand, she's still enjoying her food, leaping onto the bed to demand strokes, and twatting the younger cat whenever she gets too close. So, I think she's still enjoying life on her terms.

16 and 17

ImInStealthMode · 09/05/2021 22:26

I had one live to 20+.

My boy now is coming up 11 and full of life.

Buns (Bluebell) was very nearly 20 when she died this year. I miss her terribly. There is a huge hole in my heart.

mayblossominapril · 10/05/2021 07:27

15 but he met an unnatural end
20 natural end
Not quite 1 another unnatural end

All my cats were strays before moving in with me, so I don't know their exact age. One of them I had for 20years, so at least 20. Another I had for 15 years and he was old when I had him - the vet estimated about 24. Another was about 18. They weren't exactly sprightly after 20, but still went out, got about, lay down in the sunny spots.

AnneFuckingKirrin · 10/05/2021 19:20

My lovely, kind sweet boy - Mick was pts yesterday.
He was only 13 and we thought we had so much time left with him.
He had heart failure which seemed to happen in a week, he got so ill so quickly.
It’s lovely to see so many older cats living their lives happily.

SunshineCake · 10/05/2021 19:22

Mine was 18 years and nine months when she died eight years ago. I still miss and think of her.

My new cats are about to be nine and eight and a half and the baby is three.

Sorry for your loss @AnneFuckingKirrin Flowers.

AnneFuckingKirrin · 10/05/2021 19:24

Thanks @SunshineCake. I am just so surprised that a little cat can leave such a big hole in my heart.

RaeRaeMama · 10/05/2021 19:47

17! He was my childhood cat and he died at the end of last year

LST · 10/05/2021 19:51

My 1st cat only lasted to 9, but he had a heart problem. I had a girl who I rescued off the street we think was around 15 when she died. My current oldest is 13. I have a 5 year old and a 1 year old as well

Crocidura · 10/05/2021 20:29

Ours are nearly 12 and I wonder this too, OP. They are a pair of weirdos but we would love another 10 years with them 🤞

(Most importantly if they could hang on another 3 years until the kids have finished school, that would be great. I worry about losing one of them at exam time, for some reason.)
