Cat fight!

Flipping heck! Cat fight in next door's garden - and one of them was ours! Seriously going at it... and then our second one went charging in to help! She's already on metacam for a sprained leg, so here's hoping there isn't a second vet trip this week, for either of them!

He apparently won. The other cat scarpered eventually at high speed and his nibs is now sporting tufts of half-pulled fur Sad Seems ok. Not even a notched ear though we can't get close yet. Sigh. This ginger cat's been trying to invade the patch for a while, but this is the first time we've had a proper scrap.

I guess we're on bite abscess watch now...

He's in, he's got a 1cm-long cut on top of his head, patch of red on his bib (tuxedo cat...) so must be a bite under there somewhere and I think his ear did get bitten but otherwise he seems fine.

Is there anything I need to watch out for other than going off food, temperature etc? He's up to date with jabs thank goodness.

If you have any hibiscrub at home you can dilute that 1 part to 10 parts cooled boiled water. Apply with sponge then rinse.
This is what the vet advised us to do after ours had an abscess but you can do the same before anything comes up.
If not, I would let it bleed as that can get the nasties out the wound. Maybe bathe with cooled boiled water too. Do not use antiseptic such as Savlon.
The smell when our cat had an abscess was quite something! He was fine in himself.
If in any doubt, call the vets. They can clean it up and give an antibiotic jab.
