Marks in cat’s eye

Just noticed these brown marks in my cat’s eye. They’re only in one eye.

She’s about 7 years old, mainly indoor house cat. Any ideas what it is and whether I should be worried?

Have it checked out by your vet. It could be a sign of middle age or some type of tumour (benign most likely).

Beautiful cat!

@Toilenstripes

Beautiful cat!
Thank you Smile

I wondered if it was like freckles etc b the fact that she doesn’t go out much and it’s only one eye I think you’re right. I should get her seen.

My cat has this in one eye quite markedly. We were told it was some sort of cancer and common in older cats. Mine is 15 and has had it for ages. The vet wouldn’t do anything. I would mention it when you next visit the vet.

Did it change over time @ThreeKneeRepeater ?

It has very slowly got bigger over the last few years.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 04/05/2021 15:53

This is it now. It doesn’t bother him.

Oh. One of my cats has this. I had no idea it was cancer!!!

ThreeKneeRepeater · 04/05/2021 15:59

I think it’s more pre cancerous, which is why you need to keep an eye on it. (Pun not intended)
Look up Iris melanosis.

Basil has this in one eye. When I asked the vet to have a look at at she was completely unconcerned by it, and never mentioned cancer

Grumpy how splendid is Basil!
You wouldn’t mess with him!

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 04/05/2021 22:05

Aww Basil! What a majestic beast Smile

Thanks ThreeKnee I'll definitely mention it when she has her next appointment. Did yours have an xray or something to confirm it was cancerous or is just something they can tell from looking at it?

Mark no nothing was done, the vet just said that we should keep an eye on it as it could turn cancerous. I’m not sure how it would change if that was the case, or what they would do.
Iris melanosis, as mentioned above, is sort of pre cancerous, I think.
