Getting a second cat after death

Our oldest cat died at the end of March, back in October we brought a kitten home. Older cat found it difficult dealing with the hyper ness of a young kitten and they would fight a lot even upto him passing so 5 months after we got kitten.

I think the kitten (8 months now) is missing company and someone to play with he's a lovely cat. Loves affection and cuddles but he's just not been himself this past month. Our older cat was quite grumpy and I think this is why he didn't like the kitten being around and had us and the house to himself for 2 years. I think it would be best to introduce a new kitten now whilst our existing one is still quite young and has only been on his own for a month.

My worry is I am back in the office, when we got the kitten I was home working so could slowly introduce them both. With him already being young is he likely to take to a new kitten easily?

It's impossible to say. All cats, even kittens, have different personalities. However it's likely to be easier the younger they are so I would go for it.

Definitely do it while young. There might be a few hisses at first but the hopefully lasting companionship for them will be well worth it. Our resident male kitten hated our new arrival but they are inseparable now and so enrich each other’s lives.
