Help! Ideas for moving house with cats.

We are moving house and have 3 cats. The new house is just over a mile away. What is the best way to try and stop them running away? I have read about keeping them in for 5 to 6 weeks and each having their own litter tray. Any other tips gratefully received.

I’d put them in a cattery on the day of the move while you work out possible escape routes in you new home. I kept mine in for a month but she doesn’t go out too much anyway as she’s getting on a bit.

They might hide for a day or so but don’t worry.

I would also put them in the cattery for a few days.

I’d do cattery as well for a few days while you get straight.

Would also do cattery, gives you time to set them up with a secure space in the new house. I would also keep them in for an extended period (6-8 weeks) due to proximity of old house.

We moved 2 miles away with many cats. We moved the cats into new house first and put them in a bathroom with a door on sign saying no to open door. They would have hated to be in a Cattery. We didn’t keep ours in at all as one in particular hates it and gets very agitated. We didn't have a problem but I would definitely recommend keeping in for 6-8 weeks if they can tolerate it and you can manage it. I don’t know if ours pop back and visit our old house but they certainly know where we are and have all got comfy here.
