Cat water fountains

Has anyone used one? How do they work? Do they plug in? One of my cats only wants to drink from a running tap all of a sudden and I’m wondering if she’d like a fountain..

I got one when Aldi were doing them. It cost £20 and comes with one filter.

It plugs in with a long lead, about 1.5m. You just fill it up with water and plug it in. It makes a slight humming noise.

Unfortunately my cat still preferred drinking from the tap. Bloody typical.

ScarletZebra · 23/04/2021 20:10

I bought one this week because I am fed up with my cat waiting in the bath for the tap.

I am not convinced they are using it.

My cat has used its Pet Mate ( that's the brand ) for years, in fact we are on the 2nd one for them .

YesItsMeIDontCare · 23/04/2021 20:14

Leroy uses his. It's a CatMate one. I've had 4yrs and had to replace the pump once. There's a slight hum but only really noticeable when the house is really quiet. The fridge is louder tbh.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/04/2021 20:15

Ours got bored of his. In the end he had filter water out of the jug and an extra bowl in our bedroom.

freeandfierce · 23/04/2021 20:19

Both my cats loved it, had the petmate, it got noisy when low on water. Needs to be placed well away from their food.

Cleverpolly3 · 23/04/2021 20:19

My three cats absolutely love their water fountain

hellsbells99 · 23/04/2021 20:20

We have had one for a long time. My cats love it and drink more because of it.

Rinkytinkpanther · 23/04/2021 20:21

We've got the Petmate one. Both rescue cats love it and even our rescue poodle cross has discovered it!

Toddlerteaplease · 23/04/2021 22:48

Mine have a Umitaz one from Amazon. They love it. I had one in my bedroom but got fed up of emptying and cleaning two. My parents cat has the same one and loves his.

milinhas · 23/04/2021 22:49

We had one from Amazon - they didn’t use it and the noise from it turning on and off was very annoying.

CarrieMoonbeams · 23/04/2021 22:57

My oldest cat has kidney disease. She absolutely loved her water fountain for about 18 months, and then just got bored with it Confused.

She's gone off it now, and we're back to using a metal bowl which seems to keep it cooler for longer than other bowls. The water has to be changed 3 times a day though, otherwise she shouts at us! Smile

QuestionableMouse · 23/04/2021 22:59

Mine is scared stiff of the one I bought and wouldn't go near it!

Ibizafun · 23/04/2021 23:23

They absolutely love it. Drink much more than they would from still water. Best thing I ever bought for them.

RandomMess · 23/04/2021 23:42

Mine used it provided it was thoroughly rinsed/cleaned every other day. We went back to turning on the tap for Mr Fussy and plenty of fresh water around for Miss Fussy

TroysMammy · 24/04/2021 08:07

I have a pet mate but as I'm tight I've taken the pump out. However Haribo loves the size of it and he swirls the water around with his paw before drinking. He's always used it, no muddy puddles, taps or other receptacles for him and he doesn't demand fresh water every day either.

TroysMammy · 24/04/2021 08:09

It's next to his food too. I think Haribo hasn't read the How to be a Cat manual.

Oldraver · 24/04/2021 09:50

Both my cats had a water filter and loved it..... well did

I bought Colin Kitten one and he took to it straight way, though it had an annoying hum. Swapped it for the big one and I think he ignores it

Doesn't stop him drinking from the big fountain in the garden aka the pond

ScarletZebra · 25/04/2021 09:40

Come back to report that I've seen both cats drinking from the fountain now. It's a Catit one with a flower on top and it is very quiet.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 27/04/2021 00:02

I made a small wildlife pond in the garden. The cat has claimed it as his personal drinking station.

(He has a bowl of water in the kitchen at all times. I toyed with buying a water fountain but it wouldn't compete with his beloved pond).
