The designer asked me my must haves. I said "room for the litter tray.!" I've also decided this morning that the oven needs to be under the job so there is a tall cupboard to store their food and litter.
Can't believe the girls are dictating a huge purchase. GrinGrin

@applepineapple

Your cat clearly needs its own room GrinGrin
Is that your cat? What's it watching on TV? Lol.
Furries · 22/04/2021 11:22

@applepineapple - that is one of the best photos I’ve seen, pure feline dedication 🤣

Aprilshowersandhail · 22/04/2021 12:25

I hope my dcat never sees my phone or he will be expecting his own room now..

LOL When I was about 8/9, we had a kitchen larder style cupboard in the corner that had a top unit with sliding doors. You had to stand on a chair to see into the top bit so was totally useless and every time we opened it the cat was obsessed with jumping up and going to sleep inside.

I persuaded my DM to let me turn it into a cat house - my doll's carrycot as a bed, shelves made out of shoe boxes, pictures on the wall, I knitted a "rug", bought some catnip mice with my pocket money and put a bowl of biscuits in there. I was so excited the first time I lifted DCat up to show him his new house. He jumped down and never set paw in it again Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 22/04/2021 22:21

Why would cats settle for their own room. When the entire house is theirs?!

Aw @chesirecat99 that is such a cute thing to do, and such a typical cat response!

RandomMess · 23/04/2021 14:17

We had to fit glazed folding doors on our kitchen for the cats!! Plus boy cat loved sleeping on the induction job so had to turn it off every night otherwise I could hear it beeping!

We also moved the tumble dryer out to a shed (paying for electric cable etc) because he didn't like the noise so wouldn't use the cat flap if it were on.

MissHoney85 · 23/04/2021 14:20

Not as such but when buying a house one of our main dealbreakers was that it had to be cat safe, i.e. not near a main road. Probably cost us several tens of thousands!

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 23/04/2021 14:35

AlfonsoCat has his own bedroom, complete with double bed. He glares at me when I go in there if he's in bed. He graciously allows me to share his bathroom, as it has a loo. (My ensuite is on another floor.)

lorisparkle · 23/04/2021 14:41

We will definitely plan our extension with the cats and dogs in mind. In fact the 3 key things we looked at when buying a house was that it worked for the cats, dog and the piano.

@ILikeMango

It sounds grim if not unsanitary to have a litter box in the kitchen.
It's on the floor, not in the fridge
AnnieAnoniMouse · 23/04/2021 14:46

@MilduraS

I had to ask for space for two litter trays and I shorted the bifold doors so there was a wall I could fit a cat flap on. We have a vocal Bengal who would scream the house down if she wanted to go outside and couldn't. Some days she screams from the cat flap because she can't be bothered to open it herself Hmm
My parents took my cats in when I had to go overseas (not my choice) my Dad had a cat flap fitted to their brand new, absolutely gorgeous, ceiling height folding doors. I love my Dad. 💕

@Toddlerteaplease

Honestly woman!

Who ELSE would you design it around, other than cheddar?

TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 23/04/2021 14:50

@applepineapple. That's adorable!!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/04/2021 15:01

We don't have a dishwasher as the only place it could go is where the cat flap is. We also can't have the walk in shower I want as we wouldn't have room for the litter tray. We have a smaller house than we could have done because this met the requirements for me to have a cat.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/04/2021 15:21

@TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN, Snorg of course. I must not forget, the darling girl!

I added units to our existing kitchen, and made sure that one of them was the perfect size for housing the litter tray (lidded, with a flap) It's an industrial style metal framed unit, so the bottom isn't fitted in that bit, and the tray sits on the hard floor. Easy to clean the surrounding area regularly.

I guess that means I planned it around the cats, but it just makes my life easier.

Now, the plans to add a cat tunnel through the wall from the hallway to the living room, that's me pandering to the cats! Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 23/04/2021 15:35

Currently in b&q struggling to make room for the litter tray!

I'm asking our designer to put a breakfast bar in so the cats can eat their food in peace away from the dog. Then a space under the breakfast bar for the dog to eat hers. She knows her place! Smile

DaenarysStormborn · 23/04/2021 15:37

We planned our kitchen/utility around the cats. The builders thought we were nuts. Effectively we have a cat flap to outside from the utility (separated from the kitchen by a door) and another interior cat flap from the utility to lounge. Means the cats can get to the utility and lounge but nowhere else in the house. They are fed in the utility.

I want cats, but didn't want them having access to the kitchen at all. Now we are all happy as they can get outside whenever they like and we can have a clean kitchen. Grin

Gubanc · 23/04/2021 15:42

Yepp. No open plan, I don't want them on the worktops.
shit in the kitchen.... lovely.
I have a litter tray in the living room in a blanket box with a hole cut into it. (It could be a solution of bathroom doesn't have enough space.)

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/04/2021 16:51

I don’t have space in either bathroom for a blanket box.

Gubanc · 23/04/2021 18:09

@Fluffycloudland77

I don’t have space in either bathroom for a blanket box.
Neither do I. It's in the living room.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/04/2021 18:10

I haven't got space in the living room for a blanket box! Then again my bathroom is directly off the kitchen so I can't be too precious about the location of the litter tray!
