Any advice with grooming an elderly cat

Looking for some advice on how to help my 20yr old cat with grooming. She's starting to moult too so would usually be loosing her thicker winter coat. But as she's aging is finding it hard to groom herself as she used to. Try giving her a gentle brush every day to help but she won't tolerate my help for long and ----tries to takes lumps out of my arm/ gets agitated. Would welcome any suggestions on how I can help her? Fur is getting a bit smelly and there is more dander than usual. She had a bad facial abcess last year and I ended up having to cut some clumps of matted fur from her back legs as she wasn't able to groom easily. She is pretty healthy otherwise and just want her to be comfortable.

Just brushing her a little bit everyday is going to help. If she gets matted fur, try to brush them out from the bottom, or gently loosen them with your fingers. If she likes treats, bribe her with some after or during groomingGrin. I've used scent-free wipes on mine, gently wiping the fur & ears. If you're not confident trimming her nails, ask your vet to do that.

Thank you @Want2beme, hadn't thought of wet wipe type cloths. Will give that a try over the weekend. Have to give her a sedative so the vet can examine her safely, she's still v feisty, so her nails may have to wait a while.
