New kitten, looking for top tips and advice :)

I have a tiny kitten, had her for just four days. She's delightful. I may have jumped too quickly though as she's my first cat and whilst i read the books and bought all the things I still don't feel as confident as I should.
She ignores the numerous cat trees and scratch posts. She won't sleep unless on someone (which is super cute and I love but I worry she'll be completely ill equipped when I go back to work on a fortnight) and she follows us around the house.

What should I be doing that I haven't thought of? What are your top tips for kitten keeping?

Congratulations, she is lovely! It's only been 4 days, she is still getting used to her new home - there's a lot to take in, so it may take a while before she explores further or possibly is ready for climbing cat trees. Enjoy the sleeping kitten cuddles, I loved that phase.

Get another one Grin They are much easier in pairs as they amuse each other and cuddle up together.

GreenCat44 · 13/04/2021 19:04

I agree that you should another, although one will probably get into less mischief while you're out 😂
Start training her to go to bed now, I used to take mine up to bed with me at 9PM while I watched tv (with a litter tray and bowl of dry food) and now they go up to bed on their own if I stay up later. They sleep most of the night too, apart from the odd trip to the loo (I'm not a good sleeper, so am sometimes awake all night)

You need to get another if you are planning on leaving her all day. Two are really good together has she got any siblings?

kittenkipping · 13/04/2021 22:49

I'm only at work 4.5 hours split in two bouts 2.30, (lollipop lady) so she won't be alone all day ever. She's sleeping through the night 9-6. I'm so besotted Smile

Beautiful kitty.

I'd get her a companion too. Were there any more in the litter? And, if so, was she bonded to another one? That would be the one to get.

Kittens in pairs never seem to get lonely and they are delightful to watch playing together. So they're less work and twice the fun.

She'll get round to the cat trees and scratching posts in time. For now, cuddle, keep warm, feed (they eat like horses at this age), give her fresh water and change the litter. You'll need to sort out vaccinations and spaying with a vet too.

Happiness is cat-shaped. Smile

She's a calico so may be a tad challenging Grin

Cats are surprisingly good at ensuring that their humans meet their needs, especially the besotted humans.

I agree with @ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn, the cat will have you trained up in no time.
