Dandruff on 2 year old cat

In the last 3 - 4 days I’ve noticed some white specs on my cat, he ll be two next month. I have to admit I haven’t been brushing him as much as normal so he has been over due a brush, I brushed him a couple of days ago and have done again today but the specs have come back again. He doesn’t seem to be acting out of character. Any ideas what it could be or how to get rid of it? Could it be a sign of illness ? He’s nearly two and not had it before.

My Persian had it. I give her salmon oil which seems to help. Among with regular brushing.

Do you know what caused it for your cat? I’ve read online it can be a sign of other illnesses? Do you think a check up at the vets is needed if it continues?

Agree with Toddlerteaplease re the salmon oil. We’ve been giving it to our dandruffy 21 year old half Bengal for 3 weeks, and her coat is beautifully shiny again.

How long did it take for the salmon oil to work? I’ve been brushing my cat much more regularly for the last week now but the dandruff still seems to be appearing on and off, any ideas what could be causing it or anything else I can try?
