Waiting on my kitten to be born...

We lost our gorgeous girl 5 weeks ago after a short illness and were (still are) absolutely devastated. She was so loved and our house hasn't felt right ever since.

We decided a couple of weeks ago to start thinking about another cat and having done a lot of research (our last cat was extremely aggressive so we wanted a more placid breed) we have put a deposit down on a Ragdoll kitten who is due to be born this week.

I am really excited but also feeling a whole other host of emotions. I'm not trying to replace my cat but I do worry I won't love this one like I loved her. She was my first cat (rescued at 1 so have never had a kitten) and I'm not really sure what to expect.

Not really sure why I'm posting but I think I just wanted to tell someone. I haven't told any family or friends in case anything goes wrong but also for fear of being judged in case they think it's too soon.

It's not to soon If it feels right. I intended to wait, but the right cat was waiting for me. She came home 10 days later and it was a match made in heaven. She's not a replacement for Maia. She's just different.

Sorry for your loss and I don’t think it will be too soon to welcome another kitty. If it isn’t born yet you won’t be bringing it home for I’m guessing 12 weeks so it will have been a few months gap between saying goodbye to your dcat.

Awwwwwww. Of course he or she won't replace the cat you have lost. That's why life is so precious as be a human or an animal it can't be replaced.

The kittens were born today! I will keep you all posted when we get photos. We are hoping for a girl so need to find out if one of them is female (hopefully there will be as it's a litter of 5. Fingers crossed!)

We have just been through a loss too and it’s lovely to hear that it feels right to you to have a new kitten in your life. I hope we will get there in time.

I have found the male cats I have had to be a lot friendlier than the female ones so if there are no females in the litter it may not be the worst thing

My darling Bear died around a month ago and I was bereft.
I'm now waiting for the day (11 days!) when I can bring my new kitten home and I'm full of love again.

Never a replacement, always an addition. 💝

Just a little update. I have name changed since but am the OP. We are picking our gorgeous girl up next Friday and are so excited.

It's been three months since we lost our beautiful moggy and we miss her everyday. This kitten will never replace her but I think she's going to play a huge part in helping us heal.

She is gorgeous OP ! When I have lost a much loved pet, and then had another, it is building a whole new relationship. It takes time to bond with an animal, as with any other relationship, but you will have so much fun with a new kitten in the house.

Oh my goodness, what a beauty! I have had many cats over the years and have gone through the same emotions as you when I lost one of them and then got another cat. I currently have 3 cats.

You will never replace your other cat but the adventures and memories you have of her will always be "hers" and nothing you do/experience with your new kitty will ever change that.

You are now on a new adventure with your new kitty and will have different adventures and make new memories with her which will be hers to keep!

I have photos of my previous cats in various places around the house so I still feel they are around me (I think that probably qualifies me as a mad cat lady).

We're picking her up tomorrow. I'm weirdly nervous. We have everything ready now and it is quite strange seeing cat beds and toys (that she'll no doubt ignore!) around the house. Will post some photos once she's settled
