Am I upsetting the cat

My adult daughter keeps moving - 4 times this year. One of the moves was a temporary one to our house. The next move was to a tiny place. Her cat loved being at ours so much (space! Garden! Fireplace!) that when she moved to the ridiculously tiny place he was not happy so he came back to us. He ended up being with us for 5 months total.

She then moved to a larger place and wanted him back. He’s her cat, she’s had him for 6 years, so back he went. But it was really sad, for him and for us.

Now when I go to visit him, er, my daughter, he’s happy to see me but then immediately leaves the room to sit in a different room and look despondent. Prior to living with us he was always happy to see me when I visited and would sit on my lap for cuddles and a chat.

I worry he blames me, or misses me and it brings it all back. He is a hell of a cat, so sweet and charming.

I’m not sure if I should visit my daughter elsewhere or see her and the cat more often? We keep hoping she’ll leave him with us permanently, but in the meantime?

Will DD not even consider letting him live with you permanently? It's a real shame if he was happier with you. Not an easy one.

He is her baby. Of course she wants to have him with her. You might want to look into adopting your own fur baby.

Oh, we have our own cats. And at the moment she’s not considering having him come back.

I’m just wondering if it makes him sad seeing me? He was very fond of us when he lived here, I’m not sure if it would be better for him to forget his extended human family.
