Maine Coon or Tonkinese?

I had thread here before about buying a Maine Coon kitten. I've no plans yet as we're waiting to buy a house.

I'm desperate for a cat, it's all I think about so I spend a lot if time researching.

I've come across the Tonkinese breed which is intriguing.

I want a kitten or young adult that is super friendly and cuddly. I've got 2 young boys who love animals.

Any pros or cons between the 2?

Price isn't an issue, I already follow lots of genuine breeders / rehoming centres and I know a kitten of either type can cost up to £1k or so.

I'm already edging towards a young adult so this isn't a 'don't buy a kitten!' Thread.

I'd like the opinions if those who have either breed.

DP and I work from home so caring for them isn't an issue.

I'm happy (can't wait) for them to sleep alongside me in bed.

I will have no issues maintaining their coats. I will be sure they are insured, chipped, spayed and registered with a good vet.

I had a half Maine Coon.
He was the cuddliest cat ever, like a fluffy teddy come to life.
I'd love another but I have 3 girls still and I've sworn no more!

Oooohhh, I have no experience with either but wow, Tonkinese are sooo pretty 😍

We have an almost 15 year old half Maine coon, who is the most loving cuddliest cat ever.

She adores all of us and rules the dogs with just a stare. I’m not sure any other cat will be able to live up to her in the future.

I have two Maine Coons and they're wonderful. Very affectionate - one sleeps between me and DH almost every night and the other is never off my lap. The female is particularly good with my daughter and will seek her out now for attention.

They shed like crazy and hate doors being closed but that's the only bad thing about them

I have two Maine Coons and they're very gentle. Hair gets EVERYWHERE. I never go out without cat hairs on my clothes. They are beautiful so I forgive them.

I have had three Maine Coons and they have all been very different:
Morpheus... love of my life. THE most affectionate animal I have ever met. He cuddled everyone he met, paws round their neck, and slept every night with his paws round me, face pressed against me. 25 pounds of enormous pure love. My heart broke when he died of cancer aged 12.
Ophelia... affectionate and extremely demanding of belly rubs and attention. But dumped me for my DD2 when she moved back home and has just moved out with her and her dh . She follows DD2 everywhere and has the loudest miaow ever!
Oberon (Obie) a legend in his own right.. another 25 pounder..enormous ginger boy who has been unfaithful since he was first allowed out... used to pop into all the neighbours and be found asleep on their beds. 4 years ago he decided he preferred my elderly neighbours and moved in with her (mostly cos his sister hates him) Won't be groomed and we have to grab him and clipper him bald every 6 months. He likes to visit lots of houses and sleeps in all of them!!!!!

My next cat will be a Devon Rex as I want a low grooming one!!!!
