We're finally getting a cat - on Thursday!

After much discussion with DH and a long wait at the local rescue place, we're finally getting a cat.

He's 2 years old and being rehomed as his current owners are divorcing. It's a direct adoption so not through the rescue centre.

I'm off to get all the stuff we'll need tomorrow. She's giving us the cat box to travel in and she said she'd give us other things that belong to him, but I won't know what they are until I collect him.

He's also not litter trained - he normally goes outside, but will have to stay inside to start off with. Shall I just add soil to the tray (like it said online)? Or a mix of litter and soil?

What else should I buy before Thursday? Just to tide us over until he's here and I know what he's coming with?

So excited! 💕💕💕

Brilliant news. Don't forget to post a photo.

You could just try cat litter, if that doesn't work then trying adding soil.

Make sure you buy the same catfood. The cat might be a bit stressed over the next few days so good to have foods it's used to. Also saves tummy upsets. Have an extra bowl for water, even if cat is on wet. Worth getting some spot in flea drops, cat nip and my two like ping pong balls and a kickeroo.

Thanks @starfish4! I've got all of those bits this morning, so hopefully he'll settle in well. Here's a photo I've been sent:

You need a tangle teaser and a metal comb for that coat.

RevolvingPivot · 18/03/2021 09:34

I didn't want a kitten / cat but she's 2 in July and I'm glad we did.

Spaghettio · 18/03/2021 16:32

@Toddlerteaplease - we have an unwed tangle teaser upstairs that my son refuses! 😂

He's now been delayed until tomorrow, but I'll have him by lunchtime. Got the litter tray set up and ready for him to arrive. My DH is less than impressed, but everyone else in the house is super happy!

@Spaghettio how are you getting on with the new addition? Any new pics for us to see?

Spaghettio · 25/03/2021 22:07

@VouisLuitton he's here and settling well. He spent the first few days under the sofa, but he's venturing out now and has totally worked his way into our hearts (and our teenagers bed!).

He is beautiful 😍
Thanks for sharing the lovely pics.
I hope you have many happy years to come with him Smile

He's gorgeous!

bravotango · 25/03/2021 22:42

He's wonderful!! Looks very content Grin

hilariousnamehere · 25/03/2021 22:43

Ahhh he's a happy boy!! Congrats on your new feline family member!

Can highly recommend furminator brushes for longer coats, and my most useful cat accessory is safety claw clippers so I can just take the tips off when either of mine suddenly get all velcro-y when they walk across the bed 😂

EL8888 · 25/03/2021 22:44

Too adorable and fluffy!!!

Vinorosso74 · 25/03/2021 23:13

What a gorgeous boy! Looks like he's settling in very well.

Spaghettio · 26/03/2021 10:46

Thanks all - we're all smitten. 💕 so happy that he's joined us!

@hilariousnamehere thanks for the recommendation- we're already noticing the amount of hair everywhere!

@Spaghettio use it gently as it's metal and I'm always nervous of hurting them or scraping their skin - but even with a very light touch you'll be amazed how much hair comes out!

I've got one fluffy one and one short haired one and it helps both, but especially helps miss fluffy - I think it takes out loose undercoat so it doesn't get matted? Mine was a present and I was deeply dubious but wouldn't be without it now.

Although do not wear your best clothes while brushing... 😂
